2. The Keyhole – Plot.
To depict the story, we are using Parallel Editing to portray present day and a series of
flashbacks.
We are first introduced to a police investigation. The investigator is looking around the room where the
victim was last seen. We see the father comforting a distressed mother in the background. A voice over
of a police report, narrates the incident. This informs the audience that there has been a kidnapping of a
girl;
thus
setting
the
scene.
Our first flashback is of the girl saying goodbye to her father. We notice the father’s wedding ring.
We then see the investigator in a established shot of a street where she was believed have disappeared.
The second flashback involves the girl walking down the said street. She appears to be walking away
from an ominous character in the background. Her pace quickens to a run as tensions builds.
Back in present day, we observe a police investigation of a deserted barn. Marked by police tape we see
the
investigator
approach
the
door.
The third flashback shows the girl running from the ominous figure and approach a deserted barn, in
which she takes refuge. As she goes into the barn she closes the door be hind her and waits in silence for
the man to pass. Curiously she approaches the keyhole. As she looks out the man is nowhere to be seen.
He suddenly appears through keyhole. Black out and scream.
Investigators phone rings, he picks up, ominous figure in on the other side of the phone call. He makes
ransom deal, Slams phone down, WE SEE THE RING!!!. Shot on girl, pan out of room, slam door, key
hole locks.
3. Explanation
Enigma
We wanted the film to present mysterious plot and characters
motives.
Suspense
We want the film to keep the audience captivated throughout
the piece by creating suspense.
Messages
Don’t kidnap people… its mean.
4. Audience Appeal
They get left with the questions:
Where is the girl now?
Is she ok?
Who is the man?
Why did he take her
How is she going to be saved?
Is she going to be saved?
These questions will grab the audience and leave them wanting
more.
5. Practical Details
We would hope that we would be able to get most of the filming done in 23days on either a Saturday or Sunday. We need to do half the filming in the
day time and half at night and so this is a potential problem. Filming on more
than one day will help with this problem.
We have most of the locations sorted already as we only need a house, a street
and a warehouse.
The main equipment and props we need is a ring, investigator clothes in
general, old fashioned phone, key, police tape, tiny bit of blood, chair, chains
or rope and tape.
The weather we need for it is a fairly muggy day.
