Purpose of use and application/
cargo weight monitoring
Fleet operator can monitor carried cargo weight of vehicles equipped with axle
load sensors.
Mounting sensor on each axle of the vehicle is not always possible from technical
point of view and is not economically feasible. Front axle load which is created by the
weight of the driver's cabin and vehicle engine is insignificant comparing with rear
axle (rear bogie) load created by the weight of the vehicle body (loading platform)
and carried cargo. That is why a single sensor should be mounted on the most
loaded axle.
The most loaded axle of two-axial vehicles is the rear one. The rear bogie is most
loaded on three-axial vehicles.

Axle load sensor
Axle load sensor is used to determine the axle load in vehicles equipped with air
suspension (GNOM DDE) or leaf spring suspention (GNOM DP) in transport
telematics systems.

structure and operation principle
FUEL MONITORING EXPERT
Axle load sensor
GNOM DP operation principle is based on transformation of sensor lever rotation
angle into output voltage. Magnetoresistive sensing element is used as a
transducer. The output of the sensor generates stabilized analog voltage signal.
Voltage signal depends on the position of the sensor lever (rotation angle) which
varies according to axle load of the vehicle.

џ mounting on vehicles with leaf spring suspension;
џ compliance with national and European automobile standards for
electromagnetic compatibility, resistance to climatic and mechanical stress;
џ linear characteristic of the output signal;
џ built-in power supply stabilizer — output signal does not depend on supply
voltage;
џ short-circuit and reverse polarity protection;
џ construction with no friction elements for better wear resistance of the sensor.

most loaded axle. Adjust the
length of the lever (L) and the
height of the rod (H) by
experiment. Sensor and MK
DP elements should be
mounted so that lever
rotation angle range includes
the whole suspension travel of
the vehicle (Δ).

Mounting kit GNOM MK DP is used for DP mounting on two-axial and three–axial
vehicles with leaf spring suspension. MK DP contains only high-quality
components designed for mounting on vehicles.

1. Elastic element is mounted in the same plane as the pivoted lever
of the sensor.
2. Elastic element is perpendicular to the pivoted lever of the sensor.

1. Fixing the sensor to the vehicle frame with bolts

structure and operation principle

Axle load sensor
GNOM DDE operation principle is based on transformation of compressed air
pressure into output voltage. Tensoresistive bridge is used as a transducer. The
output of the sensor generates stabilized analog voltage signal. Voltage signal
varies depending on pressure in the vehicle air suspension circuit coming through
the inlet thread fitting to the transducer.

Axle load sensor
Mounting kit GNOM DDE is used for DDE sensor mounting into air suspension in
following cases:
џ mounting of DDE into M22x1.5 thread hole with the resumption of compressed
air supply pipeline;
џ DDE mounting into gap of Ø=8 mm pipeline (compressed air supply pipe);
џ DDE mounting into Ø=8 mm supply pipeline fitting.
MK DDE contains only high-quality
components specially designed for
use in vehicle air suspension system.
GNOM DDE installation/the first variant FUEL MONITORING EXPERT
Axle load sensor
Installation into standard opening of the main air supply line vehicle's
air suspension system.
The sensor should be installed instead of plug-bolt under thread M16x1,5 or
through the transition nut M22x1,5 according to the mounting scheme #1.

Installation into the junction of the main air supply line vehicle's air suspension
system.
The sensor can be installed in the hole М22x1,5 with the continuation of the
pneumatic system according to the mounting scheme #2.

Weighing with axle weighing scales
the most loaded axle of loaded vehicle with
unknown weight; with such calibration the
system won’t be able to process load weight.

Load weight = Total weight of loaded pieces
Load weight = Weight of fully loaded vehicle - Weight of empty vehicle

  • 2. Purpose of use and application/ cargo weight monitoring Fleet operator can monitor carried cargo weight of vehicles equipped with axle load sensors. Mounting sensor on each axle of the vehicle is not always possible from technical point of view and is not economically feasible. Front axle load which is created by the weight of the driver's cabin and vehicle engine is insignificant comparing with rear axle (rear bogie) load created by the weight of the vehicle body (loading platform) and carried cargo. That is why a single sensor should be mounted on the most loaded axle. The most loaded axle of two-axial vehicles is the rear one. The rear bogie is most loaded on three-axial vehicles. GNOM DP features and characteristics/ structure and operation principle FUEL MONITORING EXPERT Axle load sensor GNOM DP operation principle is based on transformation of sensor lever rotation angle into output voltage. Magnetoresistive sensing element is used as a transducer. The output of the sensor generates stabilized analog voltage signal. Voltage signal depends on the position of the sensor lever (rotation angle) which varies according to axle load of the vehicle. Sensor and MK DP elements should be mounted so that lever rotation angle range includes the whole suspension travel of the vehicle (Δ).
