Job Title: Sharky’s Marketing & Events Intern – On Campus
Number of Openings: 1
Work Schedule:8 -10 hours per week. Regular office hours will be scheduled around your classes. Additional
daytime and/or evening hours may be required, according to Sharky’s event schedule and business needs.
Wage: A stipend of $250 is awarded at the end of each semester.
Employment Start Date: August 2016
Employment End Date: May 2017
Supervisor:Taylor Renwick, Graduate Assistant for Student Development
Job Description: The Marketing and Events Intern has major responsibilities in assisting with the coordination of
all Sharky’s events including, but not limited to: movie discussions, socials, trivia nights, comedy nights, poetry
slams, video game tournaments, board game nights, international student conversation partner events, and book
discussions. In addition, this individual will work with the Campus Graduate Assistant for Marketing and Design to
create and implement marketing plans for the various Sharky’s events. The Sharky’s Marketing and Events Intern
will learn the basics of customer service, event planning, and marketing. The intern will assist with audience
development and survey creation and analysis, as well as broadening student access to Sharky’s events by
promoting events through a variety of methods. This individual will assist with maintaining a strong social media
presence on all Sharky’s Box Office and Game Room social media accounts. The position reports to the
Graduate Assistant for Student Development and works with other staff members as assigned. The position will
require an average of 8 hours per week. Hours can be flexible and adaptable. Evening and weekend hours may
be required at times.
This is a paid internship with a stipend of $250 for the semester, and academic credit may be received. We are
also willing to participate in the Certified Internship Program through the Career Center. Students should check
with their academic departments for eligibility.

Specific Responsibilities:
 Attend Campus Life Training in August 2016 (tentatively August 4)
 Adhere to the Campus Life Student Employee Manual and UNCW’s Code of Student Life
 Participate in all mandatory area and department student staff meetings and trainings including a Campus
Life New Employee Orientation
 Aid in the planning, facilitation, and marketing of all Sharky’s events
 List Sharky’s events on the UNCW Master Calendar as well as the Sharky’s Facebook page and Twitter
 Create PowerPoint ads to promote events in Sharky’s
 Create and implement new marketing plans for Sharky’s
 Conduct audience surveys at Sharky’s events and tabulate results to evaluate the effectiveness of Sharky’s
advertising and programming
 Maintain a neat and professional appearance at work
 Wear a Campus Life name tag and staff shirt during events requiring an intern presence in Sharky’s
 Participate in a review process of the job experience at the end of each semester with the Graduate
Assistant for Student Development
 Ensure compliance of the fire code by allowing no more than 75 people to enter Sharky’s per event
 Communicate regularly with Sharky’s staff to ensure smooth operation of all events
 Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
 Must be a registered undergraduate degree-seeking UNCW student, and must have a minimum 2.5 GPA to
be eligible for and continue a position with Campus Life.
 Excellent oral and written communication skills
 Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Facebook and Twitter
 An interest in campus events and event promotion
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities, and Experience Requirements:
 Program planning, facilitation, and marketing experience
 Positive attitude and strong work ethic
 Ability to work independently
 Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with others
 Public speaking
 Leading a group

Sharky’s Box Office and Game Room: Sharky's Box Office & Game Room is UNCW's premiere gaming and
entertainment destination, as well as the ticket distribution center for Lumina Theater, the Leadership Lecture
Series and Safe Rides. Sharky's sells a variety of drinks and snacks at affordable prices. Sharky’s Game Room is
available for parties, socials, group retreats, meetings, receptions, and other events. Reservations allow for free
use of all games and equipment, including four billiards tables, two televisions, table tennis, and DDR (Dance
Dance Revolution). Enjoy Xbox 360 and Wii in our large-screen electronic gaming lounge, while selecting from
our library of video games. The maximum capacity for a Sharky’s event is 75 people.
