Wobbly is a fidgeting as well rattling toy aimed to
help improve fine motor skills of toddlers of Age
Group 9 to 12 Months.
2. Our first activity for the course was going out and observe the play around us. I got the opportunity to visit
a children park in Sector 7. Children were playing with Steering like structures installed in the Park. They were
spinning, hanging, and flicking around the installation till they were bored. They enjoyed doing random
things like jumping on the road side mounts, sliding on the slopes and competing among themselves to do
the acts again and again.
Key Observation
3. As a part of the course I also got an opportunity to reflect upon my childhood play memories and illustrate them.

6. Conceptualization
I started with the first idea of making a bouncy
ball with pegs to be inserted all over the surface,
which can be further rolled to have different
types of motion according to pegs inserted. The
idea was to make an unstructured toy for kids
which they can used to fidget and enjoy.
Further to make the toy more engaging I also
tried introducing different types of Pegs for e.g.
Spherical pegs, Diamond shaped Alpha-
numerical Pegs etc.
Another idea of using the spherical part as a story
board also floated in my mind in which the
backdrops on the spherical base can be easily
changed and set up of a village or city can be
created with the help of character pegs as shown
aside.
7. Why Fidget or Rattle?
First Prototype I made with a
Sponge Ball with spherical pegs
inserted on to the surface. Pegs
were made with Plastic pipes and
colorful beads. The problem
faced by the user with this model
was that the grip of pegs on the
sponge ball surface was very less.
After a certain number of
insertion & removal of pegs the
holes became free.
To address the previous problem,
I used rubber ball in place of
Sponge Ball. Even after changing
the material of the ball inserting
& removing peg was still a tiring
activity.
Toddlerhood is full of amazing
milestones and changes. Parents
introduce toys that not only entertain
their baby, fun as serve as mental
development helping baby reach key
milestones.
As a part of child development, Fidgeting
toys help improve fine motor skills of
toddlers and Rattles help to teach babies
many new skills. When a parent moves
the rattle from one side to the other,
babies learn to visually track, or
coordinate their eyes together to watch a
moving toy. The sounds babies make also
alerts babies to noise. Even without
looking, if they hear the rattle of sound a
rattle, they eventually turn their head
towards the sound.

Final Product

In the final iteration I allowed the pegs to move
throughout the spherical portion to allow smoother
movement of the pegs.
And later, I added few steel balls inside the ball to
produce a musical rattling sound whenever the toy is
shaken or turned.
