Senior school 2013
1. Senior School 2013
At Taupaki School we celebrate learning. We have a wonderful
school that embraces difference, values excellence and provides
opportunity for our learners to be all they can be.
9. Research has shown that students tend to do better
academically and socially at a full primary for year 7 and 8
rather than an Intermediate School where they don’t have
an identity and then have to move on after only two years
and start again.
10. Leadership….
A wide range of leadership opportunities.
House Captain, Student Council, Librarian, Sports, Phys Ed and
Wet Day monitors. Travel Wise, Road Patrols
All have equal opportunities
Organising school wide events (e.g. swimming, athletics
sports, agricultural day, wheels day and lunch time sporting
activities.)
All year7&8 students are able to improve their leadership skills
through these opportunities.
11. Sport…
Wide range of sports (e.g. soccer, swimming, softball, netball,
badminton, volleyball, hockey, cross country, gymnastics,
basketball and athletics)
Many Intermediate Schools have 500 plus pupils in year 7&8
which makes the chance of any one child making an inter
school competition team quite remote.
At Taupaki every year 7&8 pupil will participate in one or more
of these if they so wish.
We punch above our weight in the inter school competition
often doing better than our larger colleagues. This is due to a
more intimate environment and dedicated staff who routinely
forgo their break times to coach teams.

13. Outdoor Education
Our Outdoor Education programme is one of the best around. Each year the
entire senior school have a camp at either, Willow Park, Eastern Beach (even
years in term 1) or M.O.E.C. on Motutapu Island (odd years early in term 2) As
well there are three other optional Outdoor Experiences.
Ski Camp in late August every year.
Waitakere Adventure (5 day tramp along the Waitakere ranges). Odd years in
late November.
Whakapapa Experience in Tongariro national Park (tramping, caving, white water
rafting, abseiling etc) even years in late November.
All of these experiences follow recognised best practice and are regarded with
envy by other schools. They are enthusiastically received by the pupils and
parents, many of whom are repeat attendees at many of these experiences.
24. Children’s voice…
I have really enjoyed being at
taupaki for my intermediate years
and My favourite parts have been
the camps and the sporting events.
The amazing teachers have helped
me improve academically and with
my leadership skills.

25. Senior School is really fun because
you get involved in a lot more extra
activities such as 2 amazing school
camps, robotics, FPS and house
captains. Also the senior school is
involved lots of sports such as
Hockey, Basketball, Soccer and
heaps of others. What I love the
most about the senior school is that
you are allowed to bring your own
devices and can work on them to
improve our learning with 21st
century techniques.
