I wrote the newsletter while working at the Mayur Global School to popularize what happens in the school among wider community. The school was a new, independent and privately owned one. Therefore, it required to be marketed widely. The document can serve as an excellent example for anyone who wants to do the same.

unfolds a range of varied opportunities
for your child to partake of. And it is
nearly impossible to narrate the whole
story. This newsletter is just an attempt
to give you some glimpses of all that
goes into the making of a day at Mayur

We will feature tiny digestible titbits
peppered with amazing but true, original
and vivid photographs of our pupils.
We would also love to have your

110 Billion US Dollar in sales and
47th
World’s Most Valuable Brand
in 2017 but started in a small single
wooden garage in 1939. That is
the story of Hewlett Packard.
Today HP produces and sells lines
of printers, scanners, digital
cameras, calculators, PDAs,
servers, workstation computers,
and computers for home and
small-business use. It
supplies not just hardware and
software, but also a full range of
services to design, implement and
support IT infrastructure.
(Wikipedia)
William Redington Hewlett
and David Packard
founded this company in a simple
garage in Palo Alto, California, the
USA. See the photo on left. They
continued working ceaselessly
even in the face of a lot of trouble
but never lost sight of the way
ahead. We draw inspiration from
the HP’s journey of rag to riches,
from Palo Alto to world over. We
have devised 30 years’ school
development plan. Of this, first
three years have been chalked out
with its intricate nitty gritty.
Slow and Steady Wins the Race
Photo Above: One of the five wooden houses. The developers have boasted
of 20 years of self-life! Currently, they are used as classrooms and office
room. When our concrete building is ready, which will be very soon, these
houses will be used for activity rooms.
Photo Below: Incidentally, Hewlett and Packard’s first factory which
functioned out of a garage was also a wooden cabin. But we, wow to
intentionally make our future journey parallel to that of the HP.
HP began its journey from a single wooden cabin. We began
from five! Our beginning, by this token, is five times better!

‘Glasnost’ Classnotes
Every day Yoga Day
Starting this gone by 21 June, 2018, to commemorate the 4th
International Yoga Day, MGS decided, to rip the full
benefits of it, to make it a regularly recurring regime. Initially students are being trained to perform yoga in the
school premises. Later on, once they have gotten sufficient hang of it, they will take it to their homes too. Yoga,
after all, is one of the gifts of our country to the world. While me must feel proud of it, we must practice it also. Our
Health and Physical Education Teacher Mr. Kareppa took the lead.
Camaraderie of
our Comrades
One needs a happy
environment to hold his
head high. And how can
you achieve that? When
works becomes a play
and play becomes part of
work. Our students daily
have games. So do our
teachers – just that not
every day but once in a
fortnight. Saturday, 22
June 2018, saw the first
season of it.
Feeling jealous of our
teachers? Don’t worry.
We have games in store
for you too.

Investiture Day
25 June, 2018, Saturday.
When given responsibility,
children grow the respect for it
and efficiency of it. To this end,
we appointed class
representatives (CRs) and
school captain (SC). CRs will be
replaced every month and SC
every term to provide the
opportunity to other capable
once. The same pupil can chair
this office maximum twice.
Alas! our Indian political system
was like this!
Our Children’s Day Out
30/06/2018, Saturday. Our children
ventured out of the school for the first time
to explore the word beyond the home and
the school. Mango, Peepal, Bulbul and
Sparrows went to Matruchhaya Children’s
Park in Davangere and made merry making.
Whereas, Pigeons and Peacocks made a
visit to Davangere Dairy in Harihar and
beheld as well as bore in mind the journey
of milk from mammals to mouth.
Costume Competition
18 June, 2018, Monday.
Mother Teresa, Kittur Rani
Chennama, M.
Vishweshwaraiah, Alia Bhat,
Sania Mirza and host of other
dignitaries visited Mayur Global
School. As part of our monthly
competitions, June month saw
our scholars draped in attires of
varied hues from different
annals of our antiquity. They
also enacted a short act to
summarize their whole life.

Is Your Child Writing Wrong Spellings?
Don’t Worry. We have a cure. - Rajesh Barasara
Our SSP is built upon the
research done by
Cambridge University.
Does your child spells words
wrongly? And you are worried. You
have reason rightly to be so because
inability to spell words correctly can
send your child’s career prospects
down the drain.
Nevertheless, take it kindly to your
child because blame is on him/her
just in part only. To a greater extent,
for the wrong spellings, culprit is the
English Language itself. English
language is actually not an ‘English’
language.
English spellings and pronunciation
is ‘an awesome mess’, ‘irrational’ and
even ínhuman’, says Mario Pei in his
book ‘The Story of English’. From
400 BC till The Middle Ages, dozens
of different European tribes invaded
Britain and settled permanently.
Each had brought their own
language with them, the sum total of
which became English.
This phenomenon has enriched the
English language but has also
messed around with it. There was no
consensus on spellings or their
pronunciation and moreover the
sounds changed over time. To
illustrate, ‘gh’ is a pure enigma for
students in cough, through and
ghost. In addition, there are too
many sounds for too
few letters. One
sound may have as
many as 14 different
spellings, as does the
sound, ‘sh’ in station,
special, and charades.
Besides, your child
needs to master a
large number of
language processing
skills to spell
accurately. All this creates
cumbersome days and even nights
for the children and their parents.
However, all is not lost. With the
right method pupils’ spellings can be
improved. Cambridge University has
done extensive research on it and we
have built a SPECIALIZED SPELLING
PROGRAMME (SSP) drawing on its
research pool. Very soon, we are
initiating this SSP. It will give fillip to
your child’s misspellings. Their
spellings will sparkle substantially.
Just wait and watch and get
spellbound!
Do you know there are several
organizations asking the
governments to simplify English
spellings?
We wish governments accept their
pleas but until then make do with
our SSP.

What Our Pupils and Parents Speak
‘You must look not at the building
but at how they are teaching.’
Shreya was defending her choice
when her elder sister tried to
make fun of it. Shreya selected
Mayur Global School over one of
the swanky schools of Davangere
where last year she was studying
with Sania, her elder sister.
At the tender age of 11 Shreya
knew what even the owners of
big schools seldom know.
“Now everyday, she gets ups
eagerly, finishes breakfast
happily and waits excitedly for
the school van. She loves going to
the school. However, this was not
the case when she was studying
with
Sania in her old school. She would
come up with one excuse or the
other to stay at home. But she
looks forward to going to Mayur
Global School,’’ her mother
Rupali quipped with a smile
across her face.
