2. London based pop singer Lily Allen
made a name for herself as soon as
she released her demos on the
internet.
Allen concentrated on her song
writing and singing developing a
style that was sweet but bratty.
In late 2005 she posted demos of her
songs on Myspace as both individual
tracks and as part of two limited edition
mixtapes that also featured tracks by
Dizzie Rascal, Credence Clearwater
Revival and Ludacris. This led to
thousands of fans, airplay on BBC radio
one and a record deal with
Regal/Parlophone before the end of
2005.
3. Lily Allen began working on her full length
album with producers such as Greg
Kurstin, Mark Ronson (who arranged a
collaboration with Kaiser Chiefs) and
future cut and released a limited edition
of LDN as her debut single in spring 2006.
Both LDN and Smile were chart successes
with the former single hitting number 7 in
the UK charts and the later single hitting
number 1 in the UK charts.
Lily Allen spent most of her 2007 touring
but also collaborated with many artists
such as Dizzie Rascal. In 2008 Allen
embarked on a talk show on BBC3 called
‘Lily Allen and friends’ which lasted
through that April.

Which arrived in early 2009,
preceded by the single ‘The Fear’.
Despite the album’s success which
included platinum certification in
the UK and a debut at the top of
the charts in the UK, Canada and
Australia in September 2009 Allen
did not renew her record contract
and took a break from music.

of writing songs for the musical
version of Bridget Jones Diary and
starting a family with her boyfriend
Sam Cooper and got married in June
2011.
In 2011 she announced that she was
working on a new music album with
long time producer Greg Kurstin.
By 2013 she has released a cover of
Keane’s ‘Somewhere only we know’ for
a John Lewis Christmas advert. The
single version was her 3rd single to
become number 1 in the UK charts.
Two subsequent singles ‘Hard out Here’
and ‘Air Balloon’ both reached the
British top ten as well, and both
appeared in her new album ‘Sheezus’ in
early May 2014.

Early Life

Welsh comedian Keith
Allen and English film
producer Alison Owen.
Growing up Allen spent
time with many of her
parents’ famous friends

bond with former Clash
singer Joe Strummer. She is
the sister of the actor Alfie
Allen. She was expelled
from school for drinking
and smoking but had a
strong love for singing
taking up lessons and
taking part in instruments
such as piano, violin, guitar
and trumpet.
Musical Career
• Lily Allen signed with London
records in 2002. when the
executive who had signed
her left, however, the label
lost interest. She then
studied to become a florist,
but changed her mind and
returned to music.
• In 2005, Allen signed with
Regal Recordings, though the
label had scarce resources to
promote her work. Allen
then took matters into her
own hands posting demons
on Myspace.
• Allen’s debut album ‘Alright
Still’ was released in
July2006.
• ‘It’s Not Me, It’s You’ was
released in February 2009.
