2. The Artist.
• Known by her stage name ‘Marina and the Diamonds’,
Marina Lambrini Diamandis is a welsh singer singwriter,
born in Abergravenny, Monmouthshire, Wales on the 10th
October 1985.
• The year of 2010 was when Marina finally made herself
famous, however has been known for her music since
2007. The artist came 2nd in 2010 on BBC’s sound of
2010 following shortly behind Ellie Goulding, another
fellow singer songwriter.
• Marina is fluent on the Piano, Keyboard and Organ, in
which these instruments are included in a lot of her music
because she can play them.
• The artist’s stage name is a mixture of her real name and
her name in Greek, she calls the Diamonds not her
backing band but her fans.
3. Biography.
• Being born in Wales Marina’s mother was Welsh however
her father was Greek.
• The artist was brought up in the village of Pandy with both
parents and her older sister.
• She said she found her talent at the ‘Haberdashers’
Monmouth School for Girls’ when she was always skiving off
choir and found inspiration off of her music teachers who
convinced her she could do anything.
• Marina’s parents separated and so she moved to Greece for
two years at the age of sixteen to live with her father. After
coming back to England the artist moved to London to attend
a dance school for only two months.
• In 2005 Marina took a music degree at the University of East
London, transferring in her second year to Middlesex
University, however later dropped out.

• When the artist first began to create her own music and songs to sell she created the ‘Mermaid
vs Sailor album, which consisted of six songs she created herself. It was released on November
23rd 2007, with the record created on handmade CD-Rs which Marina sold through her
Myspace page. An estimated total of seventy copies were sold overall. Most of the artist’s self
composed pieces were produced on the Apple Software application ‘GarageBand’, of which
she paid £500 for a few tracks to be produced.

• January 2008 was when the artist was firstly
discovered by neon gold records.
• Neon gold records issued Marina’s double sided
single which consisted of ‘Obsessions’ and
‘Mowgli’s Road’.
• Her second EP shortly followed on the 1st June
2009 called ‘the Crown Jewels’.
• On the 13th November 2009 her first major single
was released in the UK and USA, casing her to take
2nd place on the BBC Sound of 2010 on 7th January
2010.

2009-2010
• ‘The Family Jewels’ debut album was released in February 2010, striving
to number five in the UK official albums chart. This release began to
really show the artists success by selling an estimated 177,268 copies in
the UK alone.

2011 – Current
• Marina’s second album was named ‘Electra
Heart’, and included songs featuring various
other artists such as Labrinth, Dr. Luke,
Stargate and Liam Howe.
• The promotional single used was ‘Radioactive’
released in October 2011.
• The album stormed into first place on the
albums UK chart in the UK and Ireland. Also
showing to do well in Australia and Europe.
