RiverRats’ Culture Participate in the Prospect League, founded in 2008, the league stretches across the Midwest, from Missouri to West Virginia The league is a summer wooden bat league for college baseball players who have been selected by recommendation The RiverRats was one of the inaugural members in 2008, and in 2012 will be entering their fourth year of existence The RiverRats is a privately owned organization Due to NCAA rules, the players are not paid, and their food and housing is provided by volunteer host families in the greater Richmond area The name of the RiverRats is derived from a team who once played in the Whitewater Valley area in the early 1900’s
