This document provides instructions for a histology take-home exam. Students are asked to log onto a virtual microscopy website and identify various tissue structures from slides. They must capture screenshots of the structures, label them, and submit the completed PowerPoint file by email. Sample questions are provided asking students to identify specific structures like ciliated columnar epithelium, squamous epithelium, exocrine glands, islets of Langerhans, bronchi, bile ducts, goblet cells, glomeruli, proximal tubules, neurons, and white matter from slides of different tissues and pathology cases.
1. Biology of Disease
Histology Take Home Exam
• Please do this exam by yourself.
• Log onto the PEIR-VM website (http://peir.net) and use
the Virtual Microscopy slides available there.
• Each question will ask you to find a structure. Look at the
VM slide and find the structure – then do a screen
capture and paste that image file into the PowerPoint
slide. Add arrows and/or a caption if you feel it is
necessary to identify the location of the structure(s)
requested.
• When you have completed the exam e-mail the
PowerPoint file to pga@uab.edu
• Exam due by Friday September 26th
