An impairment is any loss or abnormality of psychological
Physiological or anatomical structure or function

5. Age of hearing impairment:
Pre- lingual
deaf
Post-lingual
deaf

6. Pre-lingual deaf
 Those who born with less capcity of hearing or
or those who lost their hearing capacity
in the childhood before acquiring the ability
to speak.

7. Post-lingual deaf
 One who loses his hearing capacity after he has
acquired speech.

(a)Use of hearing aid
The hearing aid should be selected
according to the degree of hearing loss.since
It is a delicate instrument ,it must be handled with care

18. (b) Vocational training
Emphasis was placed on vocational training by
different experts in their studies on hearing impaires children.
(c)Auditory training
This type of training provides a thorough
understanding of the principles of hearing rehabiliation,lip
reading,speech development.

19. (d)Classroom arrangements
The hearing impaired children in the class should be
front benchers.Seats should be within close proximity of the
teacher.The teacher may use a reasonable level of pitch
while speaking .Teacher may avoid moving when speaking.

20. (e) Nursery education
Nursery education is helpful to increase self
confidence in children and moreover ,it invites a clearcut
avenue for the childs successful integration into regular schools.
(f)Speech reading
Speech reading is an art of understanding a speaker
without hearing ,just by watching facial movements of lips and
tonuge and other facial expressions.

Early detection of hearing impairment is important for
the child’s over –all development.For developing the
hearing impaired children the role of parents and teachers
are very important.Parents should speak clearly while
speaking with their chidren.They must try to check their
hearing aids.Teachers must organise the programmes
according to the needs and abilities of the children.
