A book is being read by a woman.

4. Why should you use the passive voice?

 You don’t want to say who or what did the action.
 You don't know who did the action.
 The object is the most important or interesting part of the sentence
English speakers frequently use the passive voice.
The passive voice is frequently used by the English speakers
My mother bore me on May 16, 1998.
I was born on May 16,1998.
People call him Ali.
He is called Ali (by the people)

Ali is eating apple.

Apple is being eaten by Ali.

9. If there are two objects, use any one
1.She told us a story.
We were told a story by her.
A story was told to us by her
2.The story has taught us a good lesson.
We have been taught a good lesson by the story.
A good lesson has been taught to us by the story.

10. No need to add “by +subject” if the subjects are
• We
• They
• Someone
• Somebody
• None
• Nobody
• Everybody
• People etc.
They have stolen my pen.
My pen has been stolen.
They must have left any sign.
Any sign must have been left.

11. Negative sentences remain negative
They have not stolen my pen.
My pen has not been stolen.
Nobody has done homework.
Homework has not been done

12. Adverb goes just before V3.
She will write poems beautifully.
Poems will be beautifully written by him.
He handled the load carefully.
The load was carefully handled by him.

Open the door.
Let the door be opened.
Let him open the door.
Let the door be opened by him.

Did you teach us?
Were we taught by you?
She has to prepare food.
Food has to be prepared by her.
Who told you about the accident?
By whom were you told about the accident?
People are destroying the jungle.
The Jungle is being destroyed.

d. We made lots of money in 2002.
e. I will clean the house on Monday.
