4. Discovery
• Pakistan's first gas field was found in the late 1952 in
Balochistan near a giant Sui gas field. The Toot oil field
was not discovered until the early 1960s in the Punjab.
The Most Rich resource in Khaur Company (Attock). It
covers 122.67 square kilometres (47.36 sq mi). Pakistan
Petroleum and Pakistan Oilfields explored and began
drilling these field with Soviet help in 1961 and activity
began in Toot during 1964.

7. Recent Developement
• In Pakistan, ExxonMobil signed an agreement in May this year to
take a 25-percent working interest in the Indus Block G offshore
Pakistan, where the other partners in the block are Italy’s major
Eni and Pakistan’s Government Holdings Pvt Ltd and Oil and Gas
Development Company Limited (OGDCL).
• if the oil discovery in Pakistan turns out to be as large as
expected, the country would rank among the world’s top ten oil
producing countries, ahead of Kuwait.

9. Discovery
The Sui gas field is the biggest natural gas field in Pakistan. It is located near Sui
in Balochistan.
The gas field was discovered in the late 1952 and the commercial exploitation of
the field began in 1955.
Sui gas field accounts for 6% of Pakistan's gas production.
Remaining reserves are estimated to be at about 800 billion cubic feet (tcf) and
the daily production is around 500 million cubic feet (14,000,000 m3) of natural.
The operator of the field is Pakistan Petroleum Limited.

12. Types of coal found
• Bituminous coal is a relatively hard and less sulfurus coal containing
a tar-like substance called bitumen and would be burnt largely on
domestic fires after being turned into coke fuel.
• Sub-bituminous coal is a coal whose properties range from those of
lignite to those of bituminous coal and is used primarily as fuel for
steam-electric power generation. It is set to fuel power stations and
cement works in Pakistan.
• Lignite is a low-grade, sulfurous coal that is generally used in
modified industrial furnaces to generate heat for boilers, coke oven
heaters, brick kilns, etc

16. Renewable energy in Pakistan
1. Solar power
2. Wind power
3. Tidal power
4. Hydro power
5. Nuclear power
6. Thermal power
17. 1. Solar power
The average amount of daily sunlight in Pakistan is eight and a half hours
Eight power generation plants have been installed and eleven are in
various stages of completion.
In December 1981, the first solar photovoltaic system was commissioned,
located in Mumniala (a village 60 km from Islamabad).
Four solar systems has been commissioned in Khukhera (Lasbela district),
Ghakar (Attock district), Malmari (Thatta district) (now that system is
unserviceable) and Dittal Khan Laghari, Digri (Mirpurkhas district).
The Punjab government announced the establishment of Quaid-e-Azam
Solar Park over an area of 5,000 acres in the Cholistan Development
Authority in Bahawalpur
18. 2. Wind power
• Pakistan is developing wind power plants in Jhimpir, Gharo, Keti
Bandar and Bin Qasim in Sindh.
• The government of Pakistan decided to develop wind power
energy sources due to problems supplying energy to the southern
coastal regions of Sindh and Balochistan, the project was
undertaken with assistance from the government of China.
• Another area with potential is Swat which shows good wind
conditions in windpower investment.
• The Chagai District in Balochistan has good potential for wind
power in the Nukundi area near the Afghan/Iran Border, with wind
speeds often 12.5% higher than average required for energy
generation.
19. Some examples are:
• Jhimpir Wind Power Plant (operational)
• Gharo Wind Power Plant (operational)
• Bin Qasim Wind Power Project (under construction)
20. 3. Tidal power
• Tidal power has not yet been operational in Pakistan compared to other
renewable energy technologies, but in near future it may play a key
role.
• The coastline of Pakistan, which is about 1,045 km-long with dominant
features, is the best resource for harnessing tidal energy.
• In Sindh, two sites, creek system of Indus delta of 170 km and two to
five metres tidal heights at the Korangi Creek, are available to exploit
the tidal energy.
• Sonmiani Beach and Kalamat are also good prospects of tidal energy in
Balochistan.
• Government has issued licence to private companies to take measures
to build tidal power stations in February 2013.
• Since then, the engineering work is under process, and initially a 10 MW
plant is proposed at Sonmiani Bay. Construction was expected to start by
the end of 2013.
