• Weighting of Assessment is 40%
• Word count is 2,500 (+/- 10%)
• Any thing above 2,500 + 10% can go into the appendices section of your individual
report
• Deadline is before 10:00 am on 14th of January

3. The task
• In the assignment you will be required to produce an individual report, which investigates the role of procurement
in a chosen industry, demonstrating how procurement processes, methods, and best practices can be used to
manage procurement (2,500 words).
• The assignment will involve a review of academic theory on the aspect of procurement covered.
• You will be assessed on the quality and depth of your analysis and argument. Bullet points alone will not achieve a
high grade. Where appropriate your answers should be illustrated with sensible examples which relate to the
points being made.

4. The task
• You need to choose one procurement management case for your individual report from companies in sectors such as construction,
aerospace, manufacturing, ship building or any company of your choice.
• Before starting to work on your second assessment, please make sure to seek confirmation from your Tutor to ensure that you have
chosen an appropriate case study.
• You need to make sure that the chosen case is complex enough so that you can discuss the procurement strategy. The chosen project
must be complex/large enough to enable you to analyse a procurement strategy within this project.

5. The task
• As expected the chosen project will involve a serious/complex enough procurement process that you can critically
analyse for the purpose of this assessment.
• You can choose a project form Aerospace industry, construction, manufacturing, ship building, car manufacturers
etc.
• Once you have a formal confirmation from your class tutors regarding the applicability of the chosen project, you
are going to answer the questions below based on the chosen project:
• Critical analysis of the case study you have chosen will help you to answer the following procurement questions:

Question 1:
• Identify a detailed, bespoke, state of the art procurement process for the chosen.
• In particular detail three stages and methods of a bespoke procurement process. For example, a procurement stage might be
solicitation, or a procurement method is Make or Buy. Critically examine the procurement process and methods for the chosen work
package.
• Identify challenges and state of the art methods within the procurement process for the case study/project you have developed.
• How is risk managed by the bespoke procurement process and methods you have developed?
• Comment on the detail of your procurement process and methods. Is the detail you have provided sufficient and why?

7. Question 1
• To score a high mark for this question make sure that the procurement
process is described in relation to the specific work package within the
chosen project.
• Challenges and state of the art methods involved in a comprehensive
critical analysis of the procurement process using strong evidence and
high-quality academic sources.
• Procurement strategies are comprehensively explained using the
literature.

Using the literature, compare and contrast two different types of
contractor and form of collaboration for the work package
discussed in Question 1.

To score a high mark for this question make sure that you provide
comprehensive answer that shows a sound application of the chosen
methods, supported by evidence and appropriate examples.

10. The task
Question 3:
• Identify and critically analyse examples of four contract breaches that
can occur and their potential resolution.
• Do this by using examples through researching the literature.
• The answer should be specific to the case study you have chosen.
• Contrast two different types of contractor and form of collaboration for
the work package discussed in Question 1.

11. The task
• You will need to apply the concepts and models covered in class
regarding a multi-stage procurement management process applied to a
case study which is hypothetical/factual and informed by the literature.
You will be needed to refine your understanding of the procurement
processes, methods; and types of contracts and collaboration; and also,
terms and conditions in contracts during class exercises and
discussions and demonstrate this in your written report.
• Make sure to fully study the marking scheme which can be found
in the last page of your Assessment 2 brief
