L
ight Emitting Diode, popularly known as LED,
has become an integral part of our lives. From
the light bulbs in our houses, office, streets,
or in our vehicles & decorative materials, LED is
the most preferred lighting material. The need
for LED rise when previous lighting solutions were
not able to fulfil the current market needs.
Lighting solutions were a challenge for many,
as the CFLs and old yellow bulbs were having a
short life and the replacement cost was rising.
LED lighting became popular in the last couple
of years as the production cost went down. It has
an impact on the environment as well. LED bulbs
consume less electricity which clearly reduces
the need for the excess amount of electricity
production.
The lifespan of LED lighting equipment is defined
differently than that of other lighting sources
such as incandescent or compact fluorescent
bulbs (CFLs). Most LEDs do not “heat up” or fail.
Instead, it encounters “light decay”, in which the
brightness of the LED slowly decreases over time.
Unlike incandescent bulbs, the “lifespan” of LEDs
is estimated when the luminous flux is reduced
by 30%.

LEDs are integrated into bulbs and
accessories for lighting applications. Small
LEDs provide unique design time. Some
LED lighting solutions are physically similar
to light bulbs which recognize and enhance
the image of the fixture. Some LED fixtures
may have a light in the LED that shines the
light permanently. In addition, the “bulb”
model is not always used or modified for
lighting, with a combination of specially
designed special equipment. LEDs offer
many possibilities for innovation in the form
of lighting and are suitable for a wide range
of applications rather than just luminaires.
LEDs are “directional” light sources
that emit light in one direction, unlike
incandescent lamps and CFLs, which emit
light and heat in all directions. This means
LEDs can use better light and energy in a
variety of applications. But it also means
that sophisticated engineering requires the
development of LED bulbs that emit light
in all directions.

Academic life of the founders. Goals
and ambition at that time.
I am an Engineering Graduate in Electronics
& Communication from Roorkee Institute of
Technology. I completed my B. Ttech in the year
2010. I was an average student during academics.
But most of the practical things that I knew even
before I joined my engineering, all credit goes to
my family and to my father (Mr. Sanjay Kumar),
who is also a first-generation Entrepreneur and
successfully ran a flagship line of inverters and

stabilizers under the brand name SUN SUPRIM.
During the 1990s SUN SUPRIM had an impressive
customer base of more than 50000 customers.
I learned the fundamental concept of electronics
at a very early age. In engineering, this knowledge
has been enhanced. I was also getting most of the
guidance from my elder brother Mr. Himanshu. In
the real world, he is my mentor in academics as
well as business.
I still remember; during my college days, me and
my two-three friends always looked to take part
in tech fests and technical seminars on upcoming
technology held in different colleges and
universities. I was always first to join these things.
Now it seems that this initial curiosity helped me a
lot in my later professional life.
After completing my B.tech in 2010, I did a PG
Diploma in Embedded System Design from
CDAC, Chennai.
Reason to commence HP LED Lighting
After completing my studies at CDAC, Chennai,
I was looking for a job in my domain where I
could add some real corporate experience to my
engineering knowledge. Although my ultimate
goal was always to start my own electronics
venture, I wanted to understand how corporates
work. I decided to work for some time to gain
experience. I worked for approximately 1 and a
half year in Siemens.
During my job, I explored that all companies
were focusing on energy-saving solutions to
reduce carbon emissions and to reduce electricity
expenses. It is very beneficial for our environment
as well and helps in sustainable economic
development. At that time, some ideas clicked
in my mind about energy wastage in lighting
products and ways to reduce it. Hence, we started
thinking about it and we began to work in LED
lights manufacturing.
During this process, my elder brother Mr
Himanshu the Co-founder and Director of
Marketing of our organization told me that we
have to focus on an area that has a very long life
span. He told me one thought at that time “God
divide a complete day into two parts, one is the day
& another is night, and if we have a night, we need
Light”. At that moment, we decided to work in the
field of LED lighting industry.

face due to the covid19 pandemic?
During the first Covid19 pandemic, we were
not mentally prepared enough. We did not
even think that the scenario has gone bad at
such a level. At that moment we even faced
some financial issues. However, that all has
been resolved. Later on, we bounced back as

Why LED lights are better?
LED is today’s most energy-efficient and rapidly-
developing lighting technology. Quality LED light bulbs
last longer, are more durable, and offer comparable or
better light quality than other kinds of lighting. LED
lighting represents the newest development within
the industry. The energy efficiency and considerable
lifespan of LED technology hold all the potential for
changing the way organizations brighten their facilities
by reducing the value of electricity and overall energy
use. Easily the foremost significant advantage of LEDs,
when put next to traditional lighting solutions is the
long lifespan. The common LED lasts 50,000 operating
hours to 100,000 operating hours or more, that’s 2-4
times as long as most fluorescent, metal halide, and

LED Energy Efficiency:

per unit of power (watts) consumed by the bulb. In
our experience most LED lighting retrofit projects lead

How LEDs are Different
LED lighting is extremely different from other
lighting types like incandescent and CFL. Key
differences include:
 Light Source: LEDs are the dimensions of a fleck

Conclusion
Considering the value savings, energy efficiency,
and environmental impact, it’s no wonder LEDs are
dominating the industry with no signs of stopping. An
extended lifetime means lower carbon emissions. LED
lights last up to 6 times longer than other kinds of lights,
reducing the need for frequent replacements. This ends
up in using fewer lights and hence fewer resources
are needed for manufacturing processes, packaging
materials, and transportation.
In 2030, connected streetlights could stream data
between several devices. Connected lighting
infrastructure will be able to collect and distribute
data and improve city services like light, traffic, air
quality, public safety, parking, and other location-based
services, leveraging state-of-the-art communication
technologies. Autonomous vehicles will be able to
navigate roads safely, using and communicating with
sensors in streetlights that scan the road and pavements
and supply a frame of reference by transmitting
situational information to enhance the vehicles’ on-
board sensors. So, with LED our future seems bright.

because of their multiple benefits over traditional
lighting technology. Although the Indian LED lighting
business is in its infancy, it promises an infinite number
of development prospects over the following several
decades. India, being one of the biggest lighting
