3. What is the Internet?
The Internet is a global network of
billions of computers and other
electronic devices. With the Internet, it's
possible to access almost any
information, communicate with anyone
else in the world, and do much more.
4. The World Wide Web—usually called the
Web for short—is a collection of different
websites you can access through the
Internet. A website is made up of related
text, images, and other resources. Websites
can resemble other forms of media—like
newspaper articles or television programs—
or they can be interactive in a way that's
unique to computers.
What is the Web?
5. It's important to realize that the Internet is
a global network of physical cables, which
can include copper telephone wires, TV
cables, fiber optic cables, and satellites .
Even wireless connections like Wi-Fi and
3G/4G rely on these physical cables to
access the Internet.
How does it work?
6. How does it work? When you visit a website, your
computer sends a request over these
wires to a server. A server is where
websites are stored, and it works a
lot like your computer's hard drive.
Once the request arrives, the server
retrieves the website and sends the
correct data back to your computer.
What's amazing is that this all
happens in just a few seconds!
7. The internet began as ARPANET, an academic
research network that was funded by the
military's Advanced Research Projects
Agency (ARPA, now DARPA). The project was
led by Bob Taylor, an ARPA administrator,
and the network was built by the
consulting firm of Bolt, Beranek and
Newman. It began operations in 1969.

8. Who created the
internet
Vinton Cerf and Bob Kahn
credited with inventing the Internet
communication protocols we use today and the
system referred to as the Internet.
9. History of the internet
1965-The first two computers are connected via packet
switching at MIT
1969-ARPANET, the first widely used computer network, is
launched
1971-Email, electronic messages sent between computers, is
developed
1988-IRC, Internet Relay Chat, was launched, a precursor of our
current instant messaging apps
1991-The World Wide Web is introduced to the public
1998-Google goes online, revolutionizing the way users locate
resources on the internet
2010 -The internet records 400 million active users for the first
time
