2. A crop is "a plant or animal product that can
be grown and harvested extensively for profit
or subsistence." Crop may refer either to the
harvested parts or to the harvest in a more
refined state (husked, shelled, etc.).
Most crops are cultivated in agriculture or
aquaculture.
3. There are two different types of crops
o Cash crops
o Food crops
1.Cash crops:
A cash crop is an agricultural crop which is
grown for sale to return a profit.
2. Food crops:
A crop, such as rice or wheat, that is grown for
human consumption
4. The major cash crop of Pakistan are: Cotton,
rice, sugar-cane, tobacco, Oil-seeds etc.
Cotton is the principal cash crop of Pakistan.
Rice comes next to cotton as foreign exchange
earner of the country.
Sugar-cane is another popular cash crop.
Tobacco is one of the important cash crops of
Pakistan.

6. Our study finds that the output of wheat, rice
and cotton has a positive and significant
relationship with the agricultural GDP of
Pakistan, while the output of sugarcane has a
negative and non-significant relationship with
the agricultural GDP of Pakistan. Therefore, this
study recommends that the government of
Pakistan should launch new funding
programmes for the development of the
agricultural sector.
7. There are two types of food crop
1. Kharif Crops
Kharif crops are grown in summer.These
are rice, maize and millets.
2.Rabi Crops
In winter we grow rabi crops.These are
wheat, gram, masoor and mustard

9. Most crops are cultivated in agriculture or
aquaculture. Most crops are harvested
as food for humans or livestock
(fodder crops). Some crops are gathered
from the wild (including intensive gathering,
e.g. ginseng). Important non-food
crops include horticulture, floriculture and
industrial crops.
10. Wheat
Wheatt grows well in places that have mild
temperature and small amount of
rainfall.This crops is sown in October and
November and harvested in April and May.
11. Rice
Rice grows well in
warm places having
plenty of moisture.It is
mostly grown in
Punjab and SIndh.
Maize
Maize grows in warm
places with moderate
rainfall.The maize
growing region is KPK.
12. Millet
Two important millets
Jowar and Bajra can
grow even in poor soils
with very little water.
Cotton
Cotton is our leading
export.cotton likes high
temperature and
moderate rainfall.
