The first universal credit card, which could be
used at a variety of establishments, was
introduced by the Diners’ Club. Inc., in 1950.
Another major card of this type, known as a
travel & entertainment card, was
established by the American Express
Company in 1958.

Also known as plastic money, it is a
means 0f deferred payment.
A credit card is a payment card
issued to users as a system of
payment. It allows the cardholder to
pay for goods & services based on
the holder’s promise to pay for them.

Leading credit card issuers in India like HDFC Bank, SBI Card,
Axis Bank offer a number of cards, each catering to unique
individual needs like fuel, online shopping, dining, movies,
groceries or a mix of all.
Credit card boom in India : 10 crore cards expected by 2023
end. According to RBI data, in April 2023, India had over 8.6
crore credit cards outstanding, a growth of around 15% from
7.5 crore in April 2022.

account in the bank.
Assets and Liabilities on a particular date are
reported to bank.
A statement of annual or monthly income.
Considered credit worthy up to certain limit
depending upon income, assets and
expenditure.

CONCUSION
Credit cards provides a convenience to
consumers, acting as both a method of
payment & a flexible credit instrument.
We may expect then that most
consumers would pay a modest net
monetary cost to access this
convenience.
