Public library in Helsinki, Finland, inaugurated on 5th
December 2018
Oodi will complement the cultural and media hub formed
by Helsinki Music Centre, Finlandia Hall etc.
It is one of 37 branches of Helsinki City Library and part
of the Helmet library network.
Urban public space that is open to all.

6. Flooring
The ground floor of Oodi extends the Kansalaistori square
into an interior public space. The purpose of the ground
floor is to make each of the facilities of the library apparent
and accessible and provide a non-commercial interior space
open to all, every day of the week
The middle floor known as the “Attic”, consists of
flexible rooms arranged around the intimate nooks and
corners that inhabit the spaces between the trusses of the
bridge structure.
On the top floor “Book Heaven” , is a vast open landscape
topped with an undulating cloud-like white ceiling
punctured by circular roof lights.
7. The spacious lobby, public
facilities and event venues,
library services and café create
a cozy atmosphere.
The facilities on this floor include
studios, game rooms, work and
meeting space, an urban
workshop, and facilities for
courses and interaction.
The third floor is home to the
Book Heaven: a place to relax
and unwind with its books,
reading oases and cafés.
Helsinki’s urban landscape can
be admired from the library’s
Citizens’ Balcony.

1. Public works of art contribute to an interesting and

2. Otto Karvonen’s work is a dedication to the visitors
of the library – and to those who do not frequent the
library.
3. Total five sculptures from the collections of Helsinki
Art Museum (HAM) are placed at Oodi. The pieces
are made by the following artists: Emma
Helle, Jouko ,Korkeasaari, Janne
Martola and Joakim Sederholm
4. Seven large art rugs such as Laura Merz, Aamu
Song and Johan Olin, Marika Maijala, Piia Keto etc.
