2. How effective was your Pre-Production
work flow for your Preliminary Task?
I think we worked well together in a group. We both
contributed different ideas and produced a brainstorm
and discussed what idea would be the best. The work
flow was very even I think we both did the same amount
of work and if one of us wasn’t happy about something
we would sit down and talk about the problem and find a
way of solving this issue. I think we struggled finding cast
members that were willing to be in our Preliminary Task
that was quite difficult for us because one of us would
want someone in the film but the other didn’t think that
they were suitable for the task. I think we should of
thought about the different camera angles a bit more and
see which one would fit in well.
3. What technology did you use to film
the task and how well did this go?
We used a iPad to film our Preliminary Task. I think using an iPad
to film was a good decision because it was easy to use and it
wasn’t complicated. The quality of the footage is good and it's
quick and easy to upload onto the macs. However there are
some disadvantages in using the iPad this is that you are unable
to attach the iPad to a tripod which would make the camera
movements very limited and the sound sometimes on the iPad
won’t pick up the sound very well.
4. What did you learn from the actual
filming that you will need to think
I
about learned is future? filming
think what we have
in the the difference in
landscape and portrait because when we first filmed we
filmed some parts in portrait and that was a bad idea because
when we put the footage onto the macs we could see the
difference of filming in portrait and landscape. The image was
very stretched and made the hand look big. It looked
unprofessional thankfully we decided to change our idea and
our cast members so we didn’t have to use that footage or
film that part again. Another thing is making sure that we
don’t have unwanted things in the background because when
we were filming in the common room we had about 10
different pairs of feet in the background. Also we need to have
a steady hand so that the filming didn’t look shaky but I think
that, that was to do with the technology because it was hard
to hold at times.
5. What technology did you use to edit
the Preliminary Task and how well did
it go?
We used iMovie to edit our Preliminary Task. I think it
went quite well considering we haven’t used it before I
think the more we use iMovie the more we will get the
hang of it and the more we will be able to do a lot more
with it. We cut the clips and put the clips together, it
got quite frustrating because at times it wouldn’t do
what we wanted it to do but we got through it. The
footage altogether when it was edited I think looked
quite good considering it was our first time.
6. How well does your completed
Preliminary Task meet the criteria set
for it?
I think our Preliminary Task successfully meets the
criteria. It includes a character walking across the
room, opening a door and exchanging a few lines of
dialogue. We also used at least 5 different camera shots
we used match-on-action several times.
7. What did you think, overall you have
learnt from the process of completing
the Preliminary Task?
In conclusion I would say that I have learnt a lot from the
process of creating and completing the Preliminary Task. I
have learnt about the different types of the camera shots
and movements. Also how to use iMovie to edit the footage
and create the film and how useful storyboards are because
they help you visualise what your film would look like. I also
have learnt from our mistakes, I know now that we should
film when the area isn’t too busy and never to film in
portrait because it makes the footage have a very
unprofessional look. Also to make sure that the character is
holding everything and is wearing the correct clothes.
