1. Machining Process
Machining is any of various processes in which a piece
of raw material is cut into a desired final shape and
size by a controlled material-removal process.
2. Types of Machining Operation
Used
TURNING:Turning is a machining process in which
a cutting tool, typically a non-rotary tool bit,
describes a helical tool path by moving more or
less linearly while the workpiece rotates.
FACING:Facing in the context of turning work
involves moving the cutting tool at right angles to
the axis of rotation of the rotating workpiece.
GROOVING:Grooving is like parting, except that
grooves are cut to a specific depth instead of
severing a completed/part-complete component
from the stock.
3. Types of Machining Operation
used
DRILLING:Drilling is a cutting process that uses
a drill bit to cut or enlarge a hole of circular cross-
section in solid materials.
CHAMFERING:Chamfering is the operation of
beveling the extreme end of a workpiece.
FILING:Filing is a material removal process in
manufacturing to achive greater surface finish.
SLOTTING:Sloting is the operation by which
guideway can be produced.
7. Uses of measuring instrument
NAME OF INSTRUMENT USES
VERNIER CALIPER to measure the distance between two opposite
sides of an object.
OUTSIDE CALIPER to measure the external size of an object.
INSIDE CALIPER to measure the internal size of an object.
STEEL RULE to measure distances and/or to rule straight
lines.

9. Advantages of Protected Type Flange
Coupling
Muff coupling are employed for shafts only up to 70
mm diameter. There is no such limit in case of flange
coupling. In general flange coupling has high torque
transmitting capacity.
It is easy to assemble and dismantle.
It has simple construction. It is easy to design and
manufacture.
It also has protecive flange for preventing any
acctident from bolt and nut.
10. Disadvantages of Protected Type Flange
Coupling.
It is a rigid type of coupling. It can not tolerate
misalignment between the axes of two shafts.
It can be used only where the motion is free from
shocks and vibrations.
It requires more radial space compared with muff
coupling.
11. Uses of Protected type Flange
Coupling
To provide for the connection of shafts of units that are
manufactured separately such as a motor and generator
and to provide for disconnection for repairs or alterations.
To provide for misalignment of the shafts or to introduce
mechanical flexibility.
To reduce the transmission of shock loads from one shaft to
another.
To introduce protection against overloads.
To alter the vibration characteristics of rotating units.
To connect driving and the driven part

gained previously as a whole and at same lie - as recap.
2) To understand how closely the cost of manufacturing an item an purpose
of items are related and to know that is a duty of an engineer to establish
a balance betweem.n the
3) To develop our problem solving and innovative abilities.
4) To develop the feeling of "Group Work" this is a must for our industrial
life.
5) To get a sense of sequential steps involved in manufacturing on item.
