10. Merits and Demerits of Competitive spirit in
sports
Being competitive is rarely being portrayed as a personality attribute that is
negatively impacting our mind and body. Being competitive helps us in
chasing our dreams and in becoming our true selves. Whether it's sports or
a job/career, we all wish to win. It is in human nature to win, which in return
gives great pleasure. Craving to win or to continuously be the best is a
very strong motive whether we know it consciously or not
But the world of competitive spirit in sports also has a negative side,
monitored, competitive sports can harm athletes physiologically, socially
and physically. If not monitored, the drive to win can soon change to a
win-at-all-costs mentality that can lead to attitude problems. The attitude
that you must win can encourage cheating and difficulty getting along with
others on and off the field.
