It started with the Human Relations movement in the 1930s under researchers like Elton Mayo. The Behavioral Approach applies techniques from fields like sociology, psychology, and anthropology to understand people's actual behaviors in organizations. Key aspects include emphasizing informal relations, paying attention to dynamics like motivation and leadership, and using empirical methods like field studies.

 The Behavioral approach is an improvised,

version of Human Relations approach to
organization.
 Behavioralism started with Human
Relations movement of 1930s.

2.  Elton Mayo was called as a behavioral
scientist by D.S. Pugh long before the term
became popular. Later it was developed by
Chester Bernard, Simon, Maslow, Mc
Gregor, Argyris, Herzberg, Likert.

5. Features of Behavioral
APPROACH
 It is descriptive and analytical rather than
prescriptive. It is concerned with actual
behavior of people in the organization. It
believes that behavior of people in the
organization can be studied and
investigated objectively with intention of
developing generalized statement that is
universal laws.

6.  It emphasizes the informal relations and
communication patterns among the people
working in organization.
 Pays more attention to dynamics of
organizational behavior i.e. motivation,
leadership, decision making & so on.
 It is empirical in methodology. Advocates
Scientific study like field study, laboratory
study, etc.

7.  It is mainly concerned with quantification,
mathematisation and formal theory
construction.
 It is interdisciplinary in nature. It draws
concepts, techniques, data & perspective
from other social sciences like Sociology,
Psychology, Anthropology, etc.
