2. Introduction
• Transferring colleges is a very difficult decision that a student
might face.
• Leaving friends and classmates makes that decision that much
harder.
• Once a decision to transfer is made, students must assimilate
into their new colleges.
• This is a guide to start off successfully at a new school.

• New environment
• Different class sizes can take time for students to get used to.
• New information
• Different format for exams can take some practice
4. Get to Know Your Professors
• Find out how your assignments are scored
• Try to establish a bond with your instructor
• Go to class, missing classes can cause you to get behind
• Complete assigned readings and take good notes
• Get your assignments in on time
5. Make Use of Resources
• Syracuse University Offers a writing center that can aid in
completing writing pieces.

• -Find Someone who you trust to peer evaluate your work
6. Syracuse Transfer Mentor Program
• Syracuse offers transfers the option of having a transfer
mentor
• Transfer mentors help students get assimilated onto campus
• They are there to answer questions
• Can also be useful to peer review papers

7. South Campus Bus System
• New transfers at Syracuse are usually placed on South
Campus, therefore understanding how the bus system works
is critical.
• Transfers have to adjust to taking bus to get to classes
• New students should give themselves at least 45 minutes
from the start of their class to get there on time.

8. Join An Organization
• Syracuse offers a wide range of social and academic
organizations ranging from Greek life to sports
• Joining an organization will help a transfer meet students with
similar interests.
• By getting involved on campus, a transfer will feel more apart
of the campus atmosphere
9. Transfer Manifesto
• 1. Decide if transferring is the right decision-A student that is
thinking about transferring needs to be a hundred percent
committed to the process in order to be successful.
• 2. Be open minded-A student at a new school should come in
with an open mind and be willing to step outside their
comfort zone.
• 3.Put yourself out there- Don’t be afraid to talk to new people
and get involved on campus.
• 4. Understand that mistakes will be made- Being at a new
school is a whole different experience, and understand that it
will take a while before you feel integrated.

• 5. Ask for help-Seek assistance if you need any questions
answered.
• 6. Be motivated-Arriving at a new school means a fresh start,
get off on the right note by studying hard and putting in effort.
• 7. Confidence is key-Be confident when entering a new
college environment and don’t let the change of scenery
cause intimidation.
• 8. Explore-Being at a new college means new opportunities,
and new experiences to look into.
• 9. Embrace your new school-Come into the transfer process
with a positive attitude, and you will find success at your new
school.
