2. “Conversion … is mighty, not
minor—a spiritual rebirth and
fundamental change of what we feel
and desire, what we think and do, and
what we are. Indeed, the essence of
the gospel of Jesus Christ entails a
fundamental and permanent change
in our very nature. As we choose to
follow the Master, we choose to be
changed—to be spiritually reborn”

7. Have you changed?
Been born again?
“You may ask, Why doesn’t this mighty change happen
more quickly with me? You should remember that the
remarkable examples in scripture are just that—
remarkable and not typical. For most of us, the changes
are more gradual and occur over time. Being born again,
unlike our physical birth, is more a process than an
event. And engaging in that process is the central
purpose of mortality"

Editor's Notes
WELCOME to Sunday School—I usually end my lessons with bearing testimony but today I'm going to START with my testimony of this new curriculum…it has been 6 weeks since as familyies and individuals we have been studying the New Testament. I testify this is an inspired program that has changed our family conversations and strengthened me personally. I feel totally humbled to be part of this worldwide church curriculum change. I'm so very thankful to each of you for coming and allowing the spirit to guide and direct the teaching here. I know we have a prophet of God directing this church. I say this in the Name of Jesus Christ Amen.
NOW– let's start this lesson
We've been studying John 2-4 We are going to break it up into these three chapters
Each has two major events but what are the doctrines or lessons you learn?
YE MUST BE BORN AGAIN—LOVE that all of these stories tie together and have had a conversion
This first recorded miracle of the Savior's is only recorded by John, mostly likely in attendance
Always fascinated by this story—is this type od tempest okay?
“The reason for the tempest lies in just three words: ‘My Father’s house.’ It was not an ordinary house; it was the house of God. It was erected for God’s worship. It was a home for the reverent heart. It was intended to be a place of solace for men’s woes and troubles, the very gate of heaven. … [Jesus’s] devotion to the Most High kindled a fire in his soul and gave his words the force that pierced the offenders like a dagger”
Remember Nicodemus is a Pharisee and also part of the Sanhedrin(governing body of Jews)– word of Christ is spreading and they re getting nervous– note that he meets Jesus at night, perhaps to not be seen by his peers or just a busy schedule?
I love the thought the reason this story is included in John's Gospel is because it was told him by Nicodemus
This is not the end of Nicodemus
In the Savior's discussion with Nicodemus he compares humself to the serpent that Moses puts up on the rod
How is the serpent like the jesus? In what ways did the serpent symbolize Jesus Christ? (Possible answers: Both were “lifted up”; both were provided by the Lord to save His people; both were provided in response to people’s sins; the action required to be saved was simply to “look” or “believe.”)
Towards the end of chapter 3 some of John's deisciples are worried because
—compares himself to the grooms friend
No Jealousy—completely understood his role– he was of course imprisoned by Herod and soon after beheaded
What do you learn from John the Baptist?
It's important ot note that in this story—Geography place a big role—Jews did not like to travel through Samaria, they always skirted around it.
Also—it is noonday, most;y everyone has come and gone for the morning—she is
We havd this beautiful rendition here in this room
Your study at home starts with "the greatest sermon that was ever preached"—Matthew 5;Luke 6
Want to share a special experience I had with this picture in the Rexburg temple– this painting is in he chapel anf we were being taught by the Stake President while waiting for our ward temple night to begin. He points to this picture and asks which person represents you in this picture.—points out the womwan caught in rapture or this man perhaps distracted by the others or just bored—while the greatest sermon is being preached.
As you study these versed think on this picture and ask yourself who do you want representing you as your hear the words of the Savior from the Sea of Gailelee
Many Christians believe that the sermon on the ount and the Beattitudes are just good ethical behaviors ro follow but through JST we know that this is the literal roadmap to exaltation and celestial glory– we ould be wise to study it as such.
