To become a fully qualified actuary, a person should sit 16 IFoA exams. In this program, the first 8 core technical components will be covered, which would normally take 5-6 years in the field. Once a student has achieved the full MSc they are only one exam away from becoming a Certified Actuarial Analyst.

The University of Leicester is committed to excellent teaching, world-changing research and business innovation. Since it was founded in 1921, the University has developed a strong reputation globally for its role in numerous discoveries including the locating and extraction of the immortal remains of King Richard III under a car park in the city centre, DNA fingerprinting, which has helped to solve crimes around the world and the identification of the stellar black hole.
Despite being a relatively small university, the University currently has nearly 20,000 students studying either on campus or via distance learning and is one of the UK’s most socially inclusive universities. We also have a living alumni population of nearly 170,000, including 36,600 of whom are graduates of one of our distance learning programmes and this figure grows by nearly 4,000 each year.
In terms of geographical location Leicester is in the East Midlands, an hour and ten minutes north of London by train. We have received a number of Teaching Awards and have been ranked as the best institution in the UK for preparing students for the work of work.

You may wish to mention the success of Leicester City Football Club in 2016…. when the city of Leicester, where the University it located, became famous for being the home of the English Premier League champions, as The Foxes defied the odds to win the 2015/16 title. Leicester’s own students shared in the success of the team as through their own research running a seismometer near the King Power stadium they discovered that Leicester City fans were causing minor earthquakes when celebrating goals known as a Vardyquake.

The University of Leicester was at the forefront of the development of the UK (and global) distance learning market, having first launched our MBA in 1989. We remain one of the UK’s largest DL providers offering over 40 different subject courses.
From an individual perspective a qualification from the University of Leicester could be career changing. It could be the springboard to promotion with their current employer, the platform from which to launch a new career or simply a way to become more effective in their current role.
Self-study is central to any distance learning course. However, should they need it, support is always available from University. Students will receive their own personal tutor, but also have module leaders and access to our Distance Learning Hubs who are our one-stop shop for all student needs from payment advice, queries on course materials or assessments, mitigating circumstances and graduation arrangements.
Students will, of course, also have access to the Library’s special service for distance learning students and database services, as well as Blackboard – the University’s virtual learning environment. Students will also be supported to get ahead in their chosen career with support from the University’s Career Development Service.
