PARISH
UPDATES &
NOTICES
THE LATEST FROM OUR
PARISH COMMUNITY
LETTER FROM REVD. SEBASTIANA
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
June marks six months of my time with you as locum and what a mad and wonderful time it has
been.
Dealing with the pandemic has meant my days in the parish blew out quite significantly but as
we return to more normality and restrictions ease, I hope this means I can try contain my days in
the parish to Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday.
While the rest of the world still struggles, we in WA find ourselves in a unique position of having
no evidence of virus in the community and I suspect the coming few months will be the safest for
us until our national border re-opens. We sometimes curse our isolation, but in this instance it
appears to have protected us.
The Archbishop has requested we continue to maintain a register of attendance at Church, but
perhaps by July 18th when it looks like all restrictions (besides borders) will be lifted, this can be
eased too. My thanks again to Joan Jessup for keeping us abreast of updates in the covid safety
plan.
The process for finding your new priest appears to have begun with the Bishop meeting with the
Wardens, Secretary and enquiring about finances. I hope this process will not be too slow as I
fear the parish is missing out on what a full-time priest, rather than part-time locum can offer. I
am sorry I have not been able to attend many of the parish groups and meetings and be more
involved in pastoral care and visiting you. It is simply impossible in the time allotted.
For those of you remaining in isolation, I hope you are doing okay. I have a little prayer booklet I
can either post you or drop off if you wish. Just contact me on sebastiana.stpauls@gmail.com
Our AGM has been earmarked for September 13th. Nominations for Parish Council, Wardens and
Clergy Nominators will be open soon. Please prayerfully consider if you might be able to serve
the parish in this way at this time.
On a more personal note, I have begun chemotherapy treatment on my face to remove sun
damaged skin to prevent it from becoming cancerous. I’m afraid this means I will look a fright for
the next six weeks. I will be away on annual leave from Monday the 29th of June to Tuesday the
14th of July. After that I will be around and available but behind the scenes as my face will be in
bad shape. Because of this, The Revd. Robin Tapper and The Revd. Lyn Eastoe have been asked
to come and do Sunday supply for us on the last two Sundays in July. The first Sunday in July will
be a community service and the second Sunday will be led by The Revd. Dr John Shepherd.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me.

encouraged all churches to continue this practice.

touched surfaces are to be cleaned using a DAMP wipe only to ensure
wooden surfaces are cleaned but not damage
Whilst it is great that WA has progressed to Phase 4 of the COVID-19 Safety

Welcome back to physical church for most of us. It is good to see the familiar
faces and smiles. The half day facilitation workshop that I have been
advertising will be held in the Hall on Saturday afternoon, 27th of June,
beginning at 1:00 through to 4:30pm.
Everyone is welcome. Please bring the thoughts and reflections you have
documented on the questions I sent out in May.
If you intend to participate, could you let me know.
Every blessing, Carol.

3. JUST MANNA INC.
This week Just Manna has been honoured to respond to an urgent request for
support for Indigenous communities in the Kimberley. The request came from
Sister Alma from Halls Creek. Christabel was working in this community last
week and was distressed to see children scantily clad and very cold. The
community is in lock down with no local clothing stores. With money generously
donated, Just Manna has been able to send 176 new items of underwear, T-
shirts and shorts for children. Sister Alma has written saying thank you for what
she describes as "manna from heaven".
Sister Alma has another request for which I hope some of our talented people
at St Paul's maybe able to respond. There is a need for brightly coloured skirts
for the women. They need to be mid calf with an elastic waistband. So please
spread the word to any crafty people looking for a simple sewing project,
please contact me for details. Sister Alma has offered to cover the cost of the
material as required.

The gardening group are hoping that there might be some unwanted compost
bins out there. If so could you contact Debbie Gwynne or Pauline O’Hara. We
are trying to make better use of the leaf matter and provide compost for our
new vegetable garden.
