The newsletter provides updates from St Paul's Anglican Church, including notices of upcoming services and events, as well as announcements regarding the church's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Services have moved online through Zoom as the church building remains closed. A survey was also conducted to understand the community's needs and preferences for continuing activities digitally. Most respondents were interested in the online Sunday services and using platforms like Zoom and WhatsApp for fellowship.

Facilitation Process:
Thank you for getting on board with
the facilitation questions. You do
not need to return the pages
to anyone. They are for you to keep
and bring to a small workshop
situation to be conducted when
we are isolation free. At the
workshop you can share your
experience of St Paul's and where
you see us going in the future.
So please hold on to them for now. I
hope you are all keeping well and
enjoying the relaxed
situation.
Thank you for your participation and
looking forward to hearing from you
at a workshop.
Every blessing,
Carol Eaton on behalf of the Parish

10 MAY | 2020
Dear Parishioners,
I hope this newsletter finds you reasonably well.
With only 11 active cases of Covid 19 in the state as of Thursday, the wardens, Michael and
I are placing bets on when we might be allowed to re-open our church, hall and grounds
in some form or another. Hopefully soon!
Thanks to the government’s JobKeeper allowance, Zara is back in the office on
Wednesdays and Fridays and the majority of my stipend is also covered. My official days
are Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday. Please send any notices to Zara for the newsletter
at parish.stpauls@gmail.com by Thursday night.
My details again are sebastiana.stpauls@gmail.com and 0434 896 819.
It’s lovely to see so many of you on Zoom for our Sunday services. St Paul’s is blessed with
a number of people that make this happen and I thank you for your patience as we try
smooth out our technical issues.
As I mentioned last Sunday, the Archbishop has a new Facebook page that includes
reflections from various members of the diocese that you may wish to look up. You don’t
need to be a Facebook member. Just click on this
link:https://www.facebook.com/AnglicanArchbishopPerth/
While many of us are blessed with full fridges and steady incomes, let us remember others
not so fortunate. Just Manna and Anglicare are assisting. Please contact the Jessups and
see the notice from Anglicare if you can help.
The restoration of the hall floor is going well and a stormwater drain by the church wall
will be underway soon to prevent damp on the north side of the church.
Anglican Children and Youth Ministries is providing regular updates and resources via
newsletter if you are looking at ways to assist children and grandchildren during this time.
Please visit their website for more information: http://www.acym.perth.anglican.org
If you are looking for constructive ways to spend your time may I suggest auditing free
online classes Wollaston is offering in their certificate program:

If you’re interested in contemporary apologetics and issues around Science and
Christianity, the bible etc I can recommend an excellent podcast from John Dickson
called Undeceptions. The latest podcast is an interview with a physicist from MIT talking
about miracles: https://undeceptions.com
I have a great little booklet from the Church of England called “Prayers for use during the
Coronavirus outbreak” that includes individual prayers and a pattern of Morning and
Evening prayer. This is available in electronic format or hard copy. Contact me on

ST PAUL'S ISO BOOK CLUB
The free time that this interesting scenario has brought about has
allowed for extra time to read for leisure. If you have a book that you've
enjoyed recently that you would like to recommend to the community,
please send through the details and a short review (no spoilers!) to me in
the office and we will publish it, in each weekly newsletter. I will start
with one-
Letter To My Daughter, Maya Angelou (2008)
This book was the first that I both started and finished
during isolation. It was gifted to me by a very close
friend for my birthday last year. This short book's
chapters are set out as essays, or letters, that teach
life lessons to the daughter she never had. Each a
real life account from Angelou. It is beautiful and
light, reflective and honest, showing both strength
and vulnerability. As Angelou was a poet as well, her poetry also graced
the pages. I enjoyed reading an essay over breakfast in the morning, or
with a cup of tea before bed. I often closed the book at the end of each
chapter feeling reflective myself, or moved, or even humoured, in some
way. Being able to roundly complete a story easily in one sitting was
pleasing and satisfying to me. There is value in this book for anyone of
any age. Finishing Letter To My Daughter left a different feeling since her
passing in 2014.

May you feel valued, loved, appreciated, and so much more!
JUST MANNA
Covid “iso” is a good time to clean out your cupboards of items seldom used. In
particular, with the cold weather having set in we have an urgent need for
warm clothes , especially for men as well as sleeping bags.
Thank you to all those who have already donated , these items have been
distributed and have been gratefully received.

OUTCOMES OF THE SURVEY
"BUILDING A DIGITAL COMMUNITY
FOR ST PAUL’S"
The survey has two aims: We want to know what the community needs are. We
want to know which technology is most appropriate to use in order to fulfil
most needs. The Survey was sent to all the community members in the
Community Directory as per April 2020. We have gotten back 37 filled in
surveys ( 34%).
Results
The results of the Survey are in sum: 30 out of 37 people want to be involved in
St Paul’s Digital Community. 2 don’t and 3 people are not sure; A vast majority
wants to be part on the Sunday Service online (32); they want to be access the
whole service with audio and video; Prayer: 12 participants want to be able to
share prayer requests, 9 pray with a smaller group, and 9 as a whole
community; 10 people are interested to take part in the Midday Meditation, 16
not and 5 maybe; 10 people are interested in digitally provided courses, 16
people are not interested at all and 3 maybe; the preferred way for fellowship
and friendship are via Zoom (18), WhatsApp (11), Skype (9), Facebook (7),
Facetime (5) and meet in a park (1).
Conclusions
For the time of the restrictions:
1. Sunday Service via Zoom is working well and the preferred way to go.
2. There are hardly any problems to keep people from participating the
Sunday Service (as far as we know based on the Survey).
3. There is enough interest to start the Midday Meditation.
4. Fellowship, friendship and prayer needs are best met via Zoom, email and
WhatsApp.
For the future:
1. When there will be a next pandemic with restrictions we are prepared and
informed.
2. When parishioners in the future are not able to be physically present for
the Services ‘online’ participation might be considered.
3. Social connections can also be facilitated via Digital Media. Next to face-
to-face contact.
4. People are not very interested in using the website.
4. In the current economic situation we know that many people will be
experiencing financial hardship. There are estimates that unemployment will
reach 10% or even higher in the year to come. Anglicare WA, as part of an
alliance of community service organisations, is facilitating an
Emergency Relief hotline.
In response to COVID-19 and anticipated increases in the need for food and
emergency relief over coming months, the Financial Counselling
Network have launched the Emergency Relief & Food Access Service. Delivered
by Anglicare WA on behalf of the Financial Counselling Network and supported
by the Department of Communities and WACOSS, the Access Service
provides a triage and assessment phone-line for access to food relief and
financial support.
During the COVID-19 crisis the Emergency Relief and Food Access Service will:
- Provide a simple and accessible phone-based entry point for people
to locate their local emergency and food relief providers
- Provide support and a referral pathway for emergency and food relief
providers who may need assistance transitioning to a different service delivery
method and managing increased demand and decreased volunteer support
- Provide a streamlined service for some people through assisted referral
pathways, financial assessment and data collection
- Provide referrals to other services based upon a person’s co-presenting
issues, including financial counselling and to the National Debt Helpline
