Garland Weekend
Garland Weekend ceremonies take place from 29th - 31st July. The theme
this year is From Doubt to Faith. This year we are asked to acknowledge
our doubts in a secular Ireland which often fails to acknowledge the
importance of God at work in our lives. At Tobernalt we are surrounded
by the roots of our faith, in its surrounding, in its history and in the number of
people who visit the Holy Well throughout the year. This weekend let
us come and pray.
Garland Sunday - Camino of Mercy
A Camino of Mercy from the Cathedral in Sligo to the Holy Well will
take place on 31st July beginning at the Cathedral at 4.45am and
arriving at the Holy Well for the 6.00am Dawn Mass. This walk is a special
invitation to offer up our prayers in actions. We may have special and person
intention or we may carry the story of our own family, neighbours or friends.
As we walk, let us remember then in prayer and actions.
Holy Door
As a special place of pilgrimage in our diocese a Holy Door will be set up at the
Holy Well for the Garland Weekend. Information regarding the prayers and
Indulgence for the Holy Door are available in this Newsletter.
2. Holy Door at Tobernalt Holy Well
Stop for a few moment and become aware that you are about to be
embraced by the God of Mercy.
Cross the threshold of the Door of Mercy as a sign of your deep desire
for conversion.
Prayer at the Threshold of the Door
O God come to our aid:
O Lord make haste to help us! Glory be to the Father....
Refrain: This day was made by the Lord, we rejoice and are glad!
In the beginning you created the world: as I cross this threshold
recreate me anew today. R.
You lead our ancestors to a land that promised new life: may the
crossing of this threshold at our holy well mean the same to me - a
new beginning. R.
In your love you restored us to life, and life in all its abundance
through Baptism and Reconciliation. May I embrace this gift of life
and live it to the full. R.
As I cross this threshold you pour out your mercy on me, May I
become your adult child and relate to you and to others as you had
dreamed. R.
Conditions for the Indulgence: Go to the Sacrament of Reconciliation today or
within 20 days. Participate fully in the Eucharist within 20 days. Say the
Apostles’ Creed and pray for the Popes intentions with an Our Father and
Hail Mary.
Day of Prayer
Thank you to all who attended the Day of Prayer in Carraroe on Saturday. The day
began at 10.00am and concluded at 4pm.
Tobernalt Holy Well
The various shrines at the Holy Well will receive some repairs and repainting for
Garland Weekend. Ongoing work has and will continue to take place on the grounds.
In the interest of cleanness we would ask visitors not to remove or add anything to the
Holy Well. Flowers left at the Holy Well should be placed at the main Altar.
Parish Ministries
Summer time can be difficult for Parish Ministries. Please check the day and date that
you are helping out in the Parish. Also, please note the time that you are helping at the
Holy Well.
Reflection - Successful Soccer Coaches and Players - Pray - Portugal's coach,
Fernando Santos dedicated his victory in the Euro 2016 European Football
Championship in France to Jesus, making an emotional cofession of his faith
during a post- match press conference. In a letter which Santos had written he
said, " I would like to thank God, the Father, for this moment and for everday
of my lfe.... for giving me the gifts of wisdom, humility and perseverance to
guide this team and having guided me and lit up my way." Portugal beat their
hosts France 1-0 in the final. Also Cristiano Ronaldo revealed he "asked
God", for another chance at victory with his native Portugal.
One Way System - Garland Weekend
A one way system for traffic will be in operation for Garland
Weekend Masses. This means that cars approaching from
Carraroe are asked to go down to the Bog road and across to the Holy Well
and return after the Ceremonies by Lakeview School. Please co-operate wit
the system.
Community Centre
The Community Centre is in use for some days during the Summer period,
but others are free. Please contact the Parish Office for further
information and booking details.
