SECTION-A
Answer the following question in about 1000 words each.
15 x 3 = 45 Marks
Q. No. 1 Discuss the nature and concept of social psychology.
Answer: Social psychology is one of the most important branches of human knowledge.
Understanding the dynamics of human behaviour in social situations, the effects of these situations
on individuals, and how situations change as a result of individual behaviour are all made possible
by the study of social psychology. Social psychology, to put it simply, is the study of how people
act, think, and feel within the framework of society.
Social psychology, according to Floyd Allport, is "the scientific study of people's experiences and
behaviours in relation to other people, groups, and cultures."
The traditional definition of social psychology by Gordon Allport states: "Social psychology is an
attempt to understand and explain how the thought, feeling, and behaviour of individuals are
influenced by the actual, imagined, or implied presence of others."
The study of how people interact with society has been highlighted in the definitions above.
According to the aforementioned definitions, social psychology should be understood as a science
that examines an individual's psychology in the context of a social situation.
Individual behaviour in social interactions will always be influenced by that person's

to comprehending the kind of behaviour a person will exhibit in a social setting.
The psychological and sociological facets of a person's behaviour must therefore be included in

Q. No. 4 Discuss the interdisciplinary Vs. intradisciplinary approaches to social psychology
Answer: Interdisciplinary: Integrating knowledge and methods from different disciplines, using
a real synthesis of approaches. This integration can be found more at the level of content from the
diverse disciplines especially sociology.
Intradisciplinary: Working within a single discipline. Intradisciplinary approach conceptualizes
social psychology as a specialty branch within the discipline of psychology. From the
Intradisciplinary perspective, social psychology is defined as the psychological study of the
individual related to the social system.
• Social Psychology and Sociology
Although social psychology and sociology at first glance appear to be similar, it is their focus of
interests and scope of practice that separates the two fields. Social psychology focuses on how
individuals cope with society, while sociology is more interested in understanding the behavior of
groups of people.
Social psychology is directly related to sociology, as both studies seek to understand the
relationship between society and its members.
• Social Psychology and Anthropology
Anthropology and Psychology are contributory sciences and study human beings through different
viewpoints.
Social psychology studies man’s behavior in relation to social environment. Anthropology is also
a comparative and analytic study of human behavior and experiences. These two subjects are
complementary to each other. On one side psychological knowledge helps an anthropologist in
understanding the root causes of human behavior in different cultures and on the other side
anthropological studies help the psychologists in calculating the influence of cultural environment
of human behavior.
In modern times, the various anthropological studies have rendered important help in the field of
