3. What is bone marrow ?
Bone marrow is the spongy & soft tissue inside some of our bones,
such as your hip and thigh bones. It contains stem cells. The stem
cells can develop into red blood cells that carry oxygen through
you body , the white blood cells that fight infections and the
platelets that help with blood clotting..

4. What is stem cell ?
Stem cells are immature cells in the bone marrow
that give rise to all your blood cells.

6. What is bone marrowtransplant ?
It is the procedure in which diseased bone marrow is
replaced with healthy bone marrow.
Healthy bone marrow stem cells are harvested from
matching bone marrow donors.

7. who needs bone marrowtransplant?
1). Leukemia (blood cancer disease) and also other type of
cancer .
2). Aplastic anemia (bone marrow failure)
3). Other Genetic diseases (that involve the blood) or immune
system diseases .
4). Sickle Cell disease

8. Types of bone marrow transplant :
There are mainly three types of Bone
Marrow Transplant(B.M.T) :
1). Autologous transplant (self donated )
2). Allogeneic transplant (Received from a
donor )
3). Umbilical cord transplant

9. 1).AUTOLOGOUS TRANAPLANT :
a). As the name suggests “AUTO” means “SELF”.
b). Lower risk of infection .
c). This process is common for diseases like
lymphoma .

a). In this process the bone marrow is received from a
donor.
b). Donor may be sister, brother, parents or other
relatives.
c). There is a chance of rejection.

a). The immatureMarrow Cells recovered from the
Umbilical Cord of the new born baby after birth is
stored.
b). This is highly beneficial as chances of mismatch
are seldom.
