implementation of nutrition intervention.

● Nutrition intervention that are mainly donor-driven and that fail
to survive after donor support dries up.
● Inadequate human resources.
● Insufficient coordination.
● Lack of overarching policies.
4. THE MAIN PURPOSE OF THE
NUTRITIONAL POLICY (NNP).
❖ STRENGTH SECTORIAL CAPACITY FOR THE EFFECTIVE
DELIVERY OF THESE INTERVENTION.
The policy aims at fortifying the capacities of all the sectors involved
as far as nutrition is concerned. Thus the ministry of health as a
sector plays it roles by providing oversight and guidance on norms
and procedures for the prevention of malnutrition. Where by the
ministry of food and agriculture strengthen nutrition and agricultural
linkages to ensure the prevention and control of malnutrition. That
apply to all other sectors involved. Such as Ministry of Education,
Ministry of Finance among others.
5. FACILITATE INTEGRATION AND
MAINSTREAMING OF NUTRITION INTO
ALL NATIONAL DEVELOPING EFFORT.
The policy aims at positioning nutrition as a priority issue and must
be established at the national development and sub-national levels.
Also nutrition should also be integrated into national development
plans and actions.Agents responsible for providing services and
goods of nutrition significance including providers of healthcare,
portal water,environmental sanitation, hygiene and producers of safe
food shall engage on a common platform towards ensuring
adequate population nutrition status.
6. REPOSITION NUTRITION AS A CROSS
CUTTING ISSUE
The national nutrition policy also aim at relocation of
nutrition as a cross sectoral development issue. Thus
nutrition must be captured in all areas of nutrition as
a priority, integration and coordinator among others
ways. So that everyone regardless of their
occupational and geographical location should have
fair knowledge about adequate nutrition and that

HIGH IMPACT NUTRITION.
The policy guide the implementation of high-impact nutrition-specific
intervention that ensure optimal nutrition of Ghanaian throughout the lifecycle
with specific reference to maternal health and child survival. Example of high-
impact nutrition specific intervention include;
❖ Nutrition of women in child bearring age and newly born baby.
❖ Nutrition of school age children and adolescent.
❖ Optimal nutrition during infancy and childhood.
❖ Nutrition in the general population.
❖ Prevent and manage obesity and diet related non-communicable
diseases.
❖ Prevent and manage acute malnutrition.
8. TO PROVIDE FRAMEWORK FOR NUTRITION
SERVICE AND INTERVENTION IN GHANA
The national policy provide a structural image on which
all other nutritional services such as, nutrition screening,
nutrition counseling, serving of meals are build upon and
nutritional interventions such as, exclusive
breastfeeding, complementary feeding, vitamins,
supplement folic acid supplement among others are into
existence. Thus without it all standing grounds.
