to give more than what is due
The words Ghafūr and Ghaffār denote simply forgiving or
protecting, while 'Afuww indicates complete removal or
obliteration of the condition. Also, 'Afuww and Muntaqim are
complementary attributes. Al-'Afuww is the Forgiver, while Al-
Muntaqim is the Avenger.

وتعالى says in Surat An-Nisa' (4) Ayah 149:
"Whether you (mankind) disclose (by good words of thanks) a
good deed (done to you in the form of a favour by someone), or
conceal it, or pardon an evil, verily, Allaah is Ever Oft--
Pardoning, All--Powerful."

What is the difference between pardoning and forgiving?
Of the five times Allaah’s سبحانه
وتعالى Name Al-‘Afuww is
mentioned, four times it is with His Name Al-Ghafoor (The
Forgiving) in the Qur'aan. Allaah سبحانه
وتعالى might forgive some
people and pardon others. Forgiving means that Allaah سبحانه
وتعالى conceals our sins and mistakes and we will not be punished
for them on the Day of Judgement. However, they are still there
in our book of deeds. When He pardons the sins of people, the
sins are completely erased from their book of deeds; He will not
even remind them of their sins, nor question them, simply
because their sins have been removed!
Let us work on pardoning others of their mistakes so that
Al-'Afuww ۡ
وُفَعْال will pardon us of ours, and when we ask for
forgiveness let's ask Al-'Afuww ۡ
وُفَعْال to pardon our sins.
