Design Philosophy
Architectureisaformofart,simplelines
generatingformstocreatespacetoform
a design. This act of design develops
symbiotic relationships as it forms a
creative expression that accounts for
its surroundings and the user. This
correlation utilizes the potential space
in regards to its context and interiors to
create a design that takes on a holistic
approach. While the design process
develops its own language allowing the
designer to have the ability to utilize the
potential space in regards to its context
and interior experience. Yet, allow the
architecture to fit within its context to
formadesignthatcomplimentsitsplace,
as well as a way to improve our interior
surroundings. As the design process
evolves, an influential form begins to
evolve from one’s own originalities
and perspectives. Understanding that
context creates an association between
the architecture as its site to allow for
a feasible solution. While the interior
spaces begin to focus on the user and
how to improve their surroundings.
This ideology allow the architecture
to successfully create context that
responds to the surroundings and
spaces that provide an experience. The
design language then compliments the
architecture and its function as they
unite as one with the environment. As
these layers of creative design language
fuse together, the architecture becomes
refined. Thus, the result is that the
architectural element serves the region
asbothaspaceandaplace.

Professional Experience
Grady Woods Architects is a firm that that specializes
in custom homes, private clubhouses and various
commercial projects. With a focus on a Lowcountry
design and putting a client’s needs first.
My work with the clients has been hands on experience
to work with them to uncover what their dream design
would be. While incorporating a Lowcountry feel with
the use of large porches, steep roofs and the finishes of
the homes.
Besides residential I have had the chance to broaden
my horizons by working on a private clubhouse during
its construction phase and a baseball stadium as a
possible design option.

The Harbour Town Clubhouse is a project I was able to take
part in and soon take over upon my arrival with the firm.
I was presented the opportunity to become the project
manager of the construction phase of the clubhouse.

This is a contemporary mountain home that is in the
beginning stages of design. It will be a model home for
future buyers to tour.

Kensington Park Branch
The objective of this project is to design a local library
of the Live Oak Library system of Savannah, Georgia
called the Kensington Park Branch. As the design
site local on is located on the exterior of Savannah’s
Historic District the design, parameters present the
opportunity to create modern approach to traditional
architectural library design.
The main driving control factor on the project is from
the limited available space for the building footprint
created by the canal the splits the desired building
local on. This factor accompanied with the triangular
shape of the site influence the structures modern
spanning over the sites canal. The overall architecture
is made up of modular materials to create a structure
that incorporates folding. This folding is a symbolic
jester to the thought of a library books pages being
fold back and forth as a reader divulges the subject
matter. Throughout the Interior, the use of glass an
open environment creates space to promote the
interaction of the community within the structure.

Red Hook
Studio 4 ARCH 304 Fall 2012 Brooklyn, New York
Red Hook was built upon the ports which shaped the
land and the history of the area. This form shape relates
to the industrial history of the community to reflect the
history of Red Hook. With the irregular shape that pulls
back and forth as the ports did to allow boats to enter, the
same effect is used to bring people in to enjoy the space.
Today though containerization has taken over in the 1970s
and was forced to move to New Jersey for more space. Red
Hook became an abandoned city with warehouses and
shops left unattended. With the land being split up since
the lack of use of the ports, artists came in to renovate the
row houses to create affordable houses. As the area turns
around the shipping industry has become focused on the
revival of the ports by building a cruise ship terminal.
Red Hook is continuing the be redeveloped and rezoned
to allow for future businesses and housing to take place
alongwithaproposedbridgeforpedestrianstogetaround
since very little transportation is available. Ikea has been
the start to popularity to the area, but with the proposed
plans for the area Red Hook will continue to grow.
