                                                March 2013

Teacher: John Kermaschuk efl_teacher2002@yahoo.ca
Project Dates: April 22th – April 26th

Description:
In this project, you will work with another student to show me that you can use the language we have
studied together this semester.

Instructions:
             • Get together with one another class member
             • Sign up for a time slot before midterm week
             • Choose ONE of the ‘Conversation Situations’ below
             • There will be some time to prepare in class before the midterm week
             • Prepare a role play conversation with your partner lasting 3-5 minutes
             • DO NOT COPY ANOTHER GROUP’S DIALOGUE!
             • You only have to come to class for your scheduled time that week
             • Remember: Speaking naturally is better than memorizing!!! (no scripts allowed)

Conversation Situations: (If you decide to change a situation, check with me beforehand)

              A. You are having a first meeting with another young person at: a) a Party b) a Coffee
Shop c) a Concert d) a Sports Event or e) a Restaurant [Choose only one place].
Use a good ‘Conversation Starter’ to begin your conversation and then take turns
introducing yourselves. Ask and answer questions using appropriate topics and
                 proper question forms.

B. You will ask each other and share information about where you live, your hometown, and how large
your family is. Then each of you will take turns describing the people in the picture. You should
also talk about their appearance, their jobs, where they are from and then tell an interesting story
about a favorite family member (ex. Who you are ‘close with’ and why).
NOTE: Each person must bring a family picture for this choice.

C. You are waiting in the airport. Choose a role. Example: a) musician b) flight attendant c) CEO, etc.
Start a conversation and ask each other about your jobs and your opinions about your jobs. Tell
them the reasons why you think so. Continue the conversation and ask each other about what you
like to do for fun (free time activities / hobbies).

              D. You are walking down the street. Suddenly you see your middle-school friend. You
have not seen then them for many years. Have a conversation about what you are
doing now. Talk about each other’s: hometown, where they are living now, your jobs /
majors, free time activities / hobbies. Make a date for a future meeting.

                 • Remember: Show interest and to start and end your conversation appropriately
                                               • S-O-F-T-E-N
                                  • Be creative! Use a variety of language
• Have fun and enjoy yourself! ☺
