What Caused The Civil War Dbq
From the birth of the United States, the country was always divided into two regions, North and South. The North benefited from industry, machines,
factories, and even a bit of farming in the Midwest, while the South benefited from one thing. Slaves. Slaves were first brought from Africa as
indentured servants, but once the demand of labor increased, they were changed into slaves, meaning they would never earn their freedom. The debate
of slavery had always been a topic in politics, however it began growing with the Missouri Compromise of 1820 and the Kansas–Nebraska Act of 1854.
Soon in 1860, the country was divided into two seperate countries, the United States of America (North) and the Confederate States of America
(South). However, the question still remains, what exactly caused the Civil War?...show more content...
John Brown, an abolistionist who previously murdered five proslavery men in 1856, seized a federal arsenal in Harper's Ferry, Virginia. His plan
was to start a slave uprising, however it failed and he was caught, he was hanged for treason. Document 7 states that both sides, North and South,
were both basically surprised; however some Northerners "began to call Brown a martyr for the sacred cause of freedom." Southerners were
outraged that such a man would do this, and mobs would even assault people who held or were suspected of holding antislavery opinions. It also
scared Southerners (especially those who held slaves) because they were afraid of slave uprisings. This was one step to the Union

Civil War Imperialism Questions And Answers

How did each of the following contribute to the idea of imperialism?
Civil war/ Gilded Age: The end of the civil war and the beginning of the Gilded age contributed to the idea of imperialism becuase at this time the
population was booming and our industries became bigger and better. With this occuring it caused for the U.S. to want more space to expand industry
and to find new resources. During this time period is when we bough Alaska.
Josiah strong: Josiah Strong contrubted to imperialism because this set the tone/ idea that the Anglo Saxon superiority should be spread to assimilate the

How did the following contribute to American intervention in cuba?
William Randolph Hurst and Joesph Pulitzer used the Cuban Atrocities as a way to sell and persuade the public of America into believing
exagerations of what is going on in cuba. They would go against eachother to see who would have the better grander stories that the public would
believe, with this though it caused the public to hate what is happening in Cuba. This then causing political powers to listen to the public to keep them
pleased and persuaded them to interven in Cuba.
Yellow Journalism follows this because that is what William Randolph Hurst and Pulitzer were using to persuade the audience, the idea of overdoing
a story so it will make the public feel a certain way and in this case it made the public want to help Cuba.
The de Lome letter was a letter written about Mckinley that the U.S. intercepted, the Spanish were talking bad about Mckinley and what he was doing.
Once this reach the public in the U.S. it contributed to the U.S. intervening because the public came together and was angry over the offense and
wanted something done

OPINIONS ON THE CIVIL WAR.
The northern and southern parts of the Unites States of America were politically, economically and culturally very different from one another. The
people of the northern and southern colonies came to the new world for very different reasons and as time went on their differences grew. The
differences between them originally divided their opinions on the civil war and who the people gave loyalty. THE PEOPLE IN THE SOUTH'S
OPINION ON THE WAR .
The question to ask one's self is how a country suddenly can be divided into two parts? What triggered the people to create a separate nation? That is
exactly what happened in the mid1800s in the United States. Most people in the south...show more content...
Throughout this research I have noticed that the most frequently talked about the subject concerning the civil war is mostly about the slaves,
fighters in the war, and leaders of each opposition party and the military issues of the war. The group of people who have actually been excluded is
the male citizens who refused to fight in the war in the southern states. The male citizens who refused in the war were mostly disabled ones. This was
because the southern states had no military and they had to recruit soldiers immediately which included almost all the working and not disabled male
citizens (slaves did not count). The women were not really included in the actual civil war but they fought the war in their own way which was
fortunately recognized after the war. It was the first time in American history that women played a significant role in a war effort. Whether they were
appreciated or not appreciated their opinions on the war still counted ROSE O'NEAL GREENHOW.
Her real name was Maria Rosetta O'Neal. When women are mentioned on the topic of civil war her name is always brought up. She served the

accomplishments was the secret message she sent to General Pierre G. T Beauregard which ultimately caused him to win

How Was The Civil War A Social Issue

Many people think the civil war of 1860–1865 was fought over one issue "Slavery". But that is furthest from the truth why we fought the civil war.
During the 1850's to early 1860's the united states had many issues. And slavery was among one of those issues but the united states government had
many issues as well. During the civil war 620,000 soldiers were killed the highest death rate than any other war in U.S History. The northern armies
won the civil war as the southern states went back and returned to the union. But the united states government was was renewed and reborn and was
basically started over.
Was the War an irrepressible conflict between two fundamentally different social systems. Slave

What Are The Causes Of The Civil War Dbq
The Civil War of 1861–1865 determined the type of country United States of America would be. Out of thirty–four states, in 1861, seven Southern
slave states declared their independence from the United States, they formed the Confederate States. The number of confederate states, also known as
the South, grew to include eleven states. The remaining states that did not declare their independence were known as the Union or the North. The War
had its origin from the issue of slavery, especially in regards to the expansion of slavery into the Western states. Four years of battle between the North
and the South, over 600,000 Union and Confederate soldiers died and most of the South's infrastructure destroyed. The Confederacy collapsed and

What Led Up To The Civil War
The American Civil War was arguably the most important war in the history of the country. The War of Independence may have allowed American to
become its' own country, but the Civil War resulted in something even more important than that, the end of slavery in the southern states. All of the
issues that caused the Civil war were based around slavery, such as states' rights that involved how slavery would be handled in each state, and trying
to preserve the Union since the south seceded from the north due to their lust for slavery. The war ended up being the deadliest in the history of the
country with over 700,000 people being killed as a result of battle or from diseases that were obtained during the war. The north was better prepared for
the war than the south due to various reasons. One was the fact that the north was industrialized, while the south largely relied on agriculture. Being so
heavily industrialized, the north was better equipped to fight the war since they could construct better guns, cannons or even ships to create blockades
to prevent the south from getting help from other countries and not everyone in the south was supportive of the war. The north also had a much larger
population than the south, and since African Americans were allowed to fight for the Union, their army was larger. Arguably the most important aspect
of the northern victory was that it had superior leadership in the form of Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln is widely held as one of the greatest

Causes and Effects of the Civil War Essay
Did you know America's bloodiest battle fought on their own soil was the Civil War? The Civil War was fought on American soil between the
northern states and the southern states. Many causes provoked the war, which would affect the nation for decades to come. Slavery, the Missouri
Compromise, and John Brown's attack on Harpers Ferry, Virginia, were some of the many causes. In turn hundreds of thousands of soldiers died, the
South's economy was devastated, and the northern ideals flourished.
In the later 1700's to 1863, slavery was an intricate part of the South. Slaves were needed for plantation work like planting, caring for, and harvesting
crops to maintaining the land. After...show more content...
The Missouri Compromise stated Missouri would be a slave state and Maine would be carved out of Massachusetts and created into a non–slave state.
The Missouri Compromise really angered the North, contributing to the Civil War.
In May of 1856, Congressman Preston Brooks of South Carolina entered the nearly empty senate chamber and beat Massachusetts Senator Charles
Sumner with a cane. Brooks felt violated by Sumner's "Crime Against Kansas" speech, which provoked the retaliation. This attack spread the idea
that violence might be able to solve the problem of slavery. In October 1859, abolitionist John Brown, led a violent attack. He and his band of 21
men and attacked the federal arsenal at Harpers Ferry, Virginia. They hoped to spark a slave rebellion that would end slavery, and in John Brown's
words, "purge this land with blood." Brown's attack was one of the final causes that sparked the Civil War.
When the Civil War finally concluded, thousands of American soldiers died fighting for what they believed in. The Confederate army lost a total of
258,000 soldiers and the Union army lost 360,000 soldiers. The loss of so many people immensely harmed the nation mentally and economically.
Almost everybody had a family, relative, or friend that died in the Civil War. Half of the lives lost were farmers in the South, which devastated the
South's economy because these farmers were also consumers for their

The Civil War was the bloodiest battle the US has ever never had that reconstruction it took a very long time. 1876 was the year of the 100th
anniversary of the Declaration of Independence . 1877 the last federal troops left the South. I believe the north killed Reconstruction because they did
not do anything to stop racism, they had the Panic of 1873 and public opinion shifted about reconstruction the Civil War. For the first step of
reconstruction, congress took away the Confederate state governments and put the south under the control of the US army. New elections were held by
the army. There were three groups that worked to form new state governments. There were freedmen, carpetbaggers and scalawags. Rutherford B.

Essay On The American Civil War
The American Civil War is a civil war that is fought since 1861 and it is now the year 1864. The Union and the Confederacy are fighting for
independence of African Americans to determine the survival of the United States of America. Thousands of young men left their safe homes with
loving families and friends for many months to fight in the war to fight for America. The Union will win this battle and make America survive and
claim independence and equality for all, but in doing so our strong soldiers have to participate in long hours of drill, often insufficient food or shelter,
disease and many days in the hot dusty roads. There lives are very tough right now and it is very hard to communicate with you. All they have from

home is known as a dog tent. It is a piece of canvas buttoned to another to form a small two– man tent and sometimes our soldiers would not have
anywhere to sleep because the Confederates capture their tents. These army camps looks like a city of white canvas that are usually covered by
smoke. The soldiers construct log huts that are large enough to fit several men, which are made by trees. Also, Marching and fighting drills is a
huge part of the soldiers routine. Each man gets orders and formations like marching in column and they practice guard mount and other
procedures to learn for the rifle musket. In addition, drums were used to announce daily activities. The drum is played to wake up the soldiers at 5
AM followed by an assembly for breakfast and I have seen that sometimes it is used to give signals to load and fire their weapons. Another major
aspect of the soldiers lives are the activities they participate during their breaks in war. The soldiers play cards and play rounders or town ball. Also,
they play with planks of wood and a ball of twine. The

The first main cause of the Civil War was conflict between the North and the South about differences in economies. The North economy was dependent
on industrialization, while the South economy was dependent on agriculture (Document A). The North had a larger population because of immigrants
migrating to the North. The reason why immigrants were migrating to the North was because since the North was more industrialised it had more
factories and railroads that needed workers to operate. The South had a smaller population but did produce more cotton. Even though the South
economy was dependent on agriculture the North produced more food. The North manufactured nearly triple of what the South did in 1861 (Document

620,000 American men tragically lost their lives fighting against themselves. The Union won the four year long war after many long and deadly
battles. There were points in the war when the Union could have ended it, but they failed to do so. If the Union wouldn't have won the Civil War
then life today would be totally different. Nobody knows if the south would have survived as a lonely country, or how many more wars would have
occured. One thing is for sure, life would have been extremely different. The Union won the Civil War due to resources, ships, leadership, and
presidency.
The Union had not only better but also more resources during the war. Although the Confederacy was playing defense in this war the Union still
managed to win after four long years. The Confederacy did have an abundant amount of cotton, but the north still had more resources. For example,
document 1 showed that the north had more workers, factories, railroads, textiles, pig iron, and firearms. These resources helped the...show more

If you were a general for the confederacy you had to be able to command many people. Document 4 said, "The Union forces outnumbered the
Confederates roughly two to one" (Document 4). The Union generals had to be okay with being in charge of nearly double what the Confederate
generals had to. Because the troops were so much bigger people thought the north would easily be able to take the win, but that is not exactly what
happened. The Confederacy put up a bigger fight then the Union expected, plus at the beginning of the war the Union had some mediocre at best
generals. Some earlier generals like George B. McClellan ran instead of fighting on and potentially ending the war. If he would have kept pursuing the
war would have ended a lot sooner. But as the war went on the union got better generals and ended up winning. Unlike McClellan, Abraham Lincoln
stayed strong throughout the entirety of the Civil

The Civil War split the nation in half. It tore apart families, and Union soldiers against Confederate soldiers for four miserable years. From the first
shots fired at Fort Sumter 1861, and ending with a unanimous Confederate victory in 1865. All in all 630,000 people died and many thousands
wounded. The deaths in the Civil War totally surpassed the death totals from any other war (1). For those managed to survive the up hill battle just
began, they faced many unknowns in a world moving in an uncertain direction. With the north beating the succeeded south in the war, politicians faced
a hard task of reuniting the divided country. With reconstruction now in affect, both northern workers, and southern farmers now face many new

Farmers needed strong animals such as oxen and horses to pull the plows on the ground to make the land farmable. As a result to the wet and dry
temperatures, grasshoppers would feast on the limited amount of crops grown on the farms. "This year we had another very dry season resulting in the
light crops on which the grasshoppers came down by multiplied millions...the grasshoppers came I such swarms that they looked in the distance like
fast–gathering rain clouds flying through the air... the grain was completely hid from sight... the grasshoppers would take meat, bread and other
things from the table" (13). The houses on the farms that were made of sod were not very stable and attracted bugs. The bugs lived in the sod

living conditions of the newly relocated families were unimaginable. The limited food they were able to grow due to the inclement weather was eaten
by grasshoppers, and the unstable sod houses were infested with bugs. The farmer's lives were made easier by the extreme investment by the United
States government in the railroad industry. This way their crops could be shipped to different parts of the

Social Reasons For The Civil War
The civil war was mainly sparked by tensions between the north and the south. Both sides rarely agreed on topics and could never make a
compromise. Slavery was a big reason for the start of the civil war, but the causes don't end there. Although some may say that political or economic
reasons started the civil war between the north and the south, political reasons were the real cause. This is because of important decisions made by the
government, and the south seceding. Some believe that social reasons were the cause of the civil war. One of the main social issues was between
whites and blacks, and writer James Loewen explains: "...most white Southerners–and many Northerners, too–could not envisions life in black–majority
states such as South carolina and Mississippi unless blacks were in chains. Georgia Supreme Court Justice Henry Benning, trying to persuade the
Virginia Legislature to leave the Union, predicted race war if slavery was not protected." (57–60 Five Myths). This means that most of the white
settlers were uncomfortable with the blacks to begin with. Just as time went on, their views changed. It may be true that changing views on slavery
created tensions, however, the views being changed was due to the government which had created political parties that separated the north and south
with their beliefs on slavery. The south was a plantation based region. The main group of people there were farmers but not all were wealthy. In 1860,
many subsistence farmers

It's April 12th, 1861 and the Civil war has begun. The Union States (north) and the States of the Confederacy (south) are going against each other.
The south is for not banning slavery and the north is for banning slavery. The civil war begun April 12th, 1861 and ended on May 13th, 1865. The
civil war ended slavery, was the birth of feminism. It was also a new birth of freedom to the US. To be begin with, the civil war brought slavery to an
end by Abraham Lincoln. In his speech, "Gettysburg Address", says, "Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any
nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure." (Lincoln, 2). With this in mind, he (Abraham Lincoln) wants to show that this nation is
dedicated and willing to do anything to get it. In other words, Lincoln tells the crowd that the war has meaning behind it and that it's worth fighting
for to end slavery along with other things. Additionally, "it is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us..." (Lincoln, 4).
The words " a great task remaining before us" means the banishment of slavery. Also, the main purpose for the civil war was banning slavery. To

WHY THE UNITED STATES HAD A CIVIL WAR!!!

back to why everything got messed up and had a war and a half million lives lost. The United States of America had a Civil War because slavery,

everyone liked this because some of the Nation thought we can not just keep making compromises to hold us off from fighting. People believed that
compromises were not gonna work, it was either we allow slavery or we do not. In conclusion we had a civil war because of slavery, sectionalism

Julius Caesar And The Civil War Essay
The Civil War, consisting in large part of Caesar's own account of the conflict between himself and Pompey, explores the origins of the war, the
manner in which it was carried out, and most importantly the role of pivotal figures on both sides of the struggle. Prior to his records ending and
supplementation by military officers, Caesar makes a case for his involvement in and perhaps triggering of the war, one which would transform the
social and political landscape of the Roman empire as battles and campaigns were waged from Spain to Italy, Africa to Asia Minor. Caesar walks a
fine line between historian, strategist and orator as he attempts to record historical events, martial decisions, and persuade an audience respectively.
Despite his efforts to remain impartial, as evidenced by his admission that "the Pompeians were winning" at Dyrrachium, Caesar consistently presents
himself as a charismatic and skilled general and leader, jeopardizing the integrity of the text as objective material and allowing it to be a propagandist
account of sorts. Ultimately, Caesar uses anecdotal evidence, the presentation of his personal thoughts, and juxtaposition with his opposition to paint
his side of the war in a positive and just light. When reading The Civil War, it is critical to understand whatJulius Caesar was attempting to accomplish
by recording a narrative of his war, on and off the battlefield, with Pompey and his forces. Every author creates their work with bias, be it

The English Civil War Essay
1.English Civil War: (1642–1649) The English Civil War was a conflict over parliamentary rights caused by King Charles I's avoidance to checks of
his power. King Charles I ruled without summoning parliament for 11 years by acquiring funds through "loans" from wealthy subjects and
applying existing taxes more broadly. When he finally summoned parliament in 1640 to raise taxes for an army he arrested those in parliament
that opposed him and thus set off the English Civil War. The English Bill of Rights of 1689 was created as a result during the Glorious Revolution
of 1688; this requires the king to call parliament frequently to consent changes in laws or raise an army in times of peace. In the end, the English
Civil War checked the growth of royal absolutism and certified that England would be a constitutional monarchy. 2.Holy Roman Empire: The Holy
Roman Empire was comprised of mostly German states and lasted from 962 to 1806. It was led by an Emperor who was elected by the princes. The
Holy Roman Empire stopped the Ottoman at the gates of Vienna and several attacks after. 3.Encomienda: Encomienda was an exploitation of labor.
Spanish were granted rights to Amerindians, essentially making them slaves. Amerindians were forced to provide labor and goods to keep their land
and in return the Spanish gave them protection and taught them Christianity. A combination of abuse and disease led to a huge decline in Amerindians,
forcing Europeans to look elsewhere for labor.

What Caused The Civil War Dbq

  • 1. What Caused The Civil War Dbq From the birth of the United States, the country was always divided into two regions, North and South. The North benefited from industry, machines, factories, and even a bit of farming in the Midwest, while the South benefited from one thing. Slaves. Slaves were first brought from Africa as indentured servants, but once the demand of labor increased, they were changed into slaves, meaning they would never earn their freedom. The debate of slavery had always been a topic in politics, however it began growing with the Missouri Compromise of 1820 and the Kansas–Nebraska Act of 1854. Soon in 1860, the country was divided into two seperate countries, the United States of America (North) and the Confederate States of America (South). However, the question still remains, what exactly caused the Civil War?...show more content... John Brown, an abolistionist who previously murdered five proslavery men in 1856, seized a federal arsenal in Harper's Ferry, Virginia. His plan was to start a slave uprising, however it failed and he was caught, he was hanged for treason. Document 7 states that both sides, North and South, were both basically surprised; however some Northerners "began to call Brown a martyr for the sacred cause of freedom." Southerners were outraged that such a man would do this, and mobs would even assault people who held or were suspected of holding antislavery opinions. It also scared Southerners (especially those who held slaves) because they were afraid of slave uprisings. This was one step to the Union Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Civil War Imperialism Questions And Answers Haley Little U.S. history 3rd block How did each of the following contribute to the idea of imperialism? Civil war/ Gilded Age: The end of the civil war and the beginning of the Gilded age contributed to the idea of imperialism becuase at this time the population was booming and our industries became bigger and better. With this occuring it caused for the U.S. to want more space to expand industry and to find new resources. During this time period is when we bough Alaska. Josiah strong: Josiah Strong contrubted to imperialism because this set the tone/ idea that the Anglo Saxon superiority should be spread to assimilate the world, making the country want to imperialise into new places. Chales Darwin: Charles Darwin gave the idea that when we...show more content... had some economic problems because of the Spanish, the sugar production was crippled. The spanish were making it even worse by torching can fieldds and sugar mills . How did the following contribute to American intervention in cuba? William Randolph Hurst and Joesph Pulitzer used the Cuban Atrocities as a way to sell and persuade the public of America into believing exagerations of what is going on in cuba. They would go against eachother to see who would have the better grander stories that the public would believe, with this though it caused the public to hate what is happening in Cuba. This then causing political powers to listen to the public to keep them pleased and persuaded them to interven in Cuba. Yellow Journalism follows this because that is what William Randolph Hurst and Pulitzer were using to persuade the audience, the idea of overdoing a story so it will make the public feel a certain way and in this case it made the public want to help Cuba. The de Lome letter was a letter written about Mckinley that the U.S. intercepted, the Spanish were talking bad about Mckinley and what he was doing. Once this reach the public in the U.S. it contributed to the U.S. intervening because the public came together and was angry over the offense and wanted something done Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Opinions on the Civil War OPINIONS ON THE CIVIL WAR. The northern and southern parts of the Unites States of America were politically, economically and culturally very different from one another. The people of the northern and southern colonies came to the new world for very different reasons and as time went on their differences grew. The differences between them originally divided their opinions on the civil war and who the people gave loyalty. THE PEOPLE IN THE SOUTH'S OPINION ON THE WAR . The question to ask one's self is how a country suddenly can be divided into two parts? What triggered the people to create a separate nation? That is exactly what happened in the mid1800s in the United States. Most people in the south...show more content... Throughout this research I have noticed that the most frequently talked about the subject concerning the civil war is mostly about the slaves, fighters in the war, and leaders of each opposition party and the military issues of the war. The group of people who have actually been excluded is the male citizens who refused to fight in the war in the southern states. The male citizens who refused in the war were mostly disabled ones. This was because the southern states had no military and they had to recruit soldiers immediately which included almost all the working and not disabled male citizens (slaves did not count). The women were not really included in the actual civil war but they fought the war in their own way which was fortunately recognized after the war. It was the first time in American history that women played a significant role in a war effort. Whether they were appreciated or not appreciated their opinions on the war still counted ROSE O'NEAL GREENHOW. Her real name was Maria Rosetta O'Neal. When women are mentioned on the topic of civil war her name is always brought up. She served the confederate government by acting as a spy. She did it selflessly that even when she was put in prison she still sent secret messages. Among her accomplishments was the secret message she sent to General Pierre G. T Beauregard which ultimately caused him to win Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. How Was The Civil War A Social Issue Noah Mroszak US History B 3/20/17 Many people think the civil war of 1860–1865 was fought over one issue "Slavery". But that is furthest from the truth why we fought the civil war. During the 1850's to early 1860's the united states had many issues. And slavery was among one of those issues but the united states government had many issues as well. During the civil war 620,000 soldiers were killed the highest death rate than any other war in U.S History. The northern armies won the civil war as the southern states went back and returned to the union. But the united states government was was renewed and reborn and was basically started over. Was the War an irrepressible conflict between two fundamentally different social systems. Slave Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. What Are The Causes Of The Civil War Dbq The Civil War of 1861–1865 determined the type of country United States of America would be. Out of thirty–four states, in 1861, seven Southern slave states declared their independence from the United States, they formed the Confederate States. The number of confederate states, also known as the South, grew to include eleven states. The remaining states that did not declare their independence were known as the Union or the North. The War had its origin from the issue of slavery, especially in regards to the expansion of slavery into the Western states. Four years of battle between the North and the South, over 600,000 Union and Confederate soldiers died and most of the South's infrastructure destroyed. The Confederacy collapsed and slavery Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. What Led Up To The Civil War The American Civil War was arguably the most important war in the history of the country. The War of Independence may have allowed American to become its' own country, but the Civil War resulted in something even more important than that, the end of slavery in the southern states. All of the issues that caused the Civil war were based around slavery, such as states' rights that involved how slavery would be handled in each state, and trying to preserve the Union since the south seceded from the north due to their lust for slavery. The war ended up being the deadliest in the history of the country with over 700,000 people being killed as a result of battle or from diseases that were obtained during the war. The north was better prepared for the war than the south due to various reasons. One was the fact that the north was industrialized, while the south largely relied on agriculture. Being so heavily industrialized, the north was better equipped to fight the war since they could construct better guns, cannons or even ships to create blockades to prevent the south from getting help from other countries and not everyone in the south was supportive of the war. The north also had a much larger population than the south, and since African Americans were allowed to fight for the Union, their army was larger. Arguably the most important aspect of the northern victory was that it had superior leadership in the form of Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln is widely held as one of the greatest Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Causes and Effects of the Civil War Essay Did you know America's bloodiest battle fought on their own soil was the Civil War? The Civil War was fought on American soil between the northern states and the southern states. Many causes provoked the war, which would affect the nation for decades to come. Slavery, the Missouri Compromise, and John Brown's attack on Harpers Ferry, Virginia, were some of the many causes. In turn hundreds of thousands of soldiers died, the South's economy was devastated, and the northern ideals flourished. In the later 1700's to 1863, slavery was an intricate part of the South. Slaves were needed for plantation work like planting, caring for, and harvesting crops to maintaining the land. After...show more content... The Missouri Compromise stated Missouri would be a slave state and Maine would be carved out of Massachusetts and created into a non–slave state. The Missouri Compromise really angered the North, contributing to the Civil War. In May of 1856, Congressman Preston Brooks of South Carolina entered the nearly empty senate chamber and beat Massachusetts Senator Charles Sumner with a cane. Brooks felt violated by Sumner's "Crime Against Kansas" speech, which provoked the retaliation. This attack spread the idea that violence might be able to solve the problem of slavery. In October 1859, abolitionist John Brown, led a violent attack. He and his band of 21 men and attacked the federal arsenal at Harpers Ferry, Virginia. They hoped to spark a slave rebellion that would end slavery, and in John Brown's words, "purge this land with blood." Brown's attack was one of the final causes that sparked the Civil War. When the Civil War finally concluded, thousands of American soldiers died fighting for what they believed in. The Confederate army lost a total of 258,000 soldiers and the Union army lost 360,000 soldiers. The loss of so many people immensely harmed the nation mentally and economically. Almost everybody had a family, relative, or friend that died in the Civil War. Half of the lives lost were farmers in the South, which devastated the South's economy because these farmers were also consumers for their Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Civil War Reconstruction Dbq The Civil War was the bloodiest battle the US has ever never had that reconstruction it took a very long time. 1876 was the year of the 100th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence . 1877 the last federal troops left the South. I believe the north killed Reconstruction because they did not do anything to stop racism, they had the Panic of 1873 and public opinion shifted about reconstruction the Civil War. For the first step of reconstruction, congress took away the Confederate state governments and put the south under the control of the US army. New elections were held by the army. There were three groups that worked to form new state governments. There were freedmen, carpetbaggers and scalawags. Rutherford B. Hayes and Samuel Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Essay On The American Civil War The American Civil War is a civil war that is fought since 1861 and it is now the year 1864. The Union and the Confederacy are fighting for independence of African Americans to determine the survival of the United States of America. Thousands of young men left their safe homes with loving families and friends for many months to fight in the war to fight for America. The Union will win this battle and make America survive and claim independence and equality for all, but in doing so our strong soldiers have to participate in long hours of drill, often insufficient food or shelter, disease and many days in the hot dusty roads. In the camp, the our brave soldiers home is known as a dog tent. It is a piece of canvas buttoned to another to form a small two– man tent and sometimes our soldiers would not have anywhere to sleep because the Confederates capture their tents. These army camps looks like a city of white canvas that are usually covered by smoke. The soldiers construct log huts that are large enough to fit several men, which are made by trees. Also, Marching and fighting drills is a huge part of the soldiers routine. Each man gets orders and formations like marching in column and they practice guard mount and other procedures to learn for the rifle musket. In addition, drums were used to announce daily activities. The drum is played to wake up the soldiers at 5 AM followed by an assembly for breakfast and I have seen that sometimes it is used to give signals to load and fire their weapons. Another major aspect of the soldiers lives are the activities they participate during their breaks in war. The soldiers play cards and play rounders or town ball. Also, they play with planks of wood and a ball of twine. The Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Civil War Dbq Essay The first main cause of the Civil War was conflict between the North and the South about differences in economies. The North economy was dependent on industrialization, while the South economy was dependent on agriculture (Document A). The North had a larger population because of immigrants migrating to the North. The reason why immigrants were migrating to the North was because since the North was more industrialised it had more factories and railroads that needed workers to operate. The South had a smaller population but did produce more cotton. Even though the South economy was dependent on agriculture the North produced more food. The North manufactured nearly triple of what the South did in 1861 (Document B). Document D, goes on the explain Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Civil War Dbq Essay 620,000 American men tragically lost their lives fighting against themselves. The Union won the four year long war after many long and deadly battles. There were points in the war when the Union could have ended it, but they failed to do so. If the Union wouldn't have won the Civil War then life today would be totally different. Nobody knows if the south would have survived as a lonely country, or how many more wars would have occured. One thing is for sure, life would have been extremely different. The Union won the Civil War due to resources, ships, leadership, and presidency. The Union had not only better but also more resources during the war. Although the Confederacy was playing defense in this war the Union still managed to win after four long years. The Confederacy did have an abundant amount of cotton, but the north still had more resources. For example, document 1 showed that the north had more workers, factories, railroads, textiles, pig iron, and firearms. These resources helped the...show more content... If you were a general for the confederacy you had to be able to command many people. Document 4 said, "The Union forces outnumbered the Confederates roughly two to one" (Document 4). The Union generals had to be okay with being in charge of nearly double what the Confederate generals had to. Because the troops were so much bigger people thought the north would easily be able to take the win, but that is not exactly what happened. The Confederacy put up a bigger fight then the Union expected, plus at the beginning of the war the Union had some mediocre at best generals. Some earlier generals like George B. McClellan ran instead of fighting on and potentially ending the war. If he would have kept pursuing the war would have ended a lot sooner. But as the war went on the union got better generals and ended up winning. Unlike McClellan, Abraham Lincoln stayed strong throughout the entirety of the Civil Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Civil War Research Paper The Civil War split the nation in half. It tore apart families, and Union soldiers against Confederate soldiers for four miserable years. From the first shots fired at Fort Sumter 1861, and ending with a unanimous Confederate victory in 1865. All in all 630,000 people died and many thousands wounded. The deaths in the Civil War totally surpassed the death totals from any other war (1). For those managed to survive the up hill battle just began, they faced many unknowns in a world moving in an uncertain direction. With the north beating the succeeded south in the war, politicians faced a hard task of reuniting the divided country. With reconstruction now in affect, both northern workers, and southern farmers now face many new obstacles and...show more content... Farmers needed strong animals such as oxen and horses to pull the plows on the ground to make the land farmable. As a result to the wet and dry temperatures, grasshoppers would feast on the limited amount of crops grown on the farms. "This year we had another very dry season resulting in the light crops on which the grasshoppers came down by multiplied millions...the grasshoppers came I such swarms that they looked in the distance like fast–gathering rain clouds flying through the air... the grain was completely hid from sight... the grasshoppers would take meat, bread and other things from the table" (13). The houses on the farms that were made of sod were not very stable and attracted bugs. The bugs lived in the sod walls and roof. "In moving into all kinds of houses we find that all kinds of insects that prey upon human blood. One house we found... the bugs sailed out upon us by the hundreds... we killed more the two hundred besides the many we had deprived of life before beginning to count" (13). The living conditions of the newly relocated families were unimaginable. The limited food they were able to grow due to the inclement weather was eaten by grasshoppers, and the unstable sod houses were infested with bugs. The farmer's lives were made easier by the extreme investment by the United States government in the railroad industry. • 14. Social Reasons For The Civil War The civil war was mainly sparked by tensions between the north and the south. Both sides rarely agreed on topics and could never make a compromise. Slavery was a big reason for the start of the civil war, but the causes don't end there. Although some may say that political or economic reasons started the civil war between the north and the south, political reasons were the real cause. This is because of important decisions made by the government, and the south seceding. Some believe that social reasons were the cause of the civil war. One of the main social issues was between whites and blacks, and writer James Loewen explains: "...most white Southerners–and many Northerners, too–could not envisions life in black–majority states such as South carolina and Mississippi unless blacks were in chains. Georgia Supreme Court Justice Henry Benning, trying to persuade the Virginia Legislature to leave the Union, predicted race war if slavery was not protected." (57–60 Five Myths). This means that most of the white settlers were uncomfortable with the blacks to begin with. Just as time went on, their views changed. It may be true that changing views on slavery created tensions, however, the views being changed was due to the government which had created political parties that separated the north and south with their beliefs on slavery. The south was a plantation based region. The main group of people there were farmers but not all were wealthy. In 1860, many subsistence farmers Get more content on HelpWriting.net

In his speech, "Gettysburg Address", says, "Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure." (Lincoln, 2). With this in mind, he (Abraham Lincoln) wants to show that this nation is dedicated and willing to do anything to get it. In other words, Lincoln tells the crowd that the war has meaning behind it and that it's worth fighting for to end slavery along with other things. Additionally, "it is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us..." (Lincoln, 4). The words " a great task remaining before us" means the banishment of slavery. The Missouri Compromise was relevant for 30 years which made sense during that time anything North was free. Anything south was a slave state. Then a person decided that was not enough and said the Population in that state gets to vote. Not everyone liked this because some of the Nation thought we can not just keep making compromises to hold us off from fighting. • 19. Julius Caesar And The Civil War Essay The Civil War, consisting in large part of Caesar's own account of the conflict between himself and Pompey, explores the origins of the war, the manner in which it was carried out, and most importantly the role of pivotal figures on both sides of the struggle. Prior to his records ending and supplementation by military officers, Caesar makes a case for his involvement in and perhaps triggering of the war, one which would transform the social and political landscape of the Roman empire as battles and campaigns were waged from Spain to Italy, Africa to Asia Minor. Caesar walks a fine line between historian, strategist and orator as he attempts to record historical events, martial decisions, and persuade an audience respectively. Despite his efforts to remain impartial, as evidenced by his admission that "the Pompeians were winning" at Dyrrachium, Caesar consistently presents himself as a charismatic and skilled general and leader, jeopardizing the integrity of the text as objective material and allowing it to be a propagandist account of sorts. Ultimately, Caesar uses anecdotal evidence, the presentation of his personal thoughts, and juxtaposition with his opposition to paint his side of the war in a positive and just light. When reading The Civil War, it is critical to understand whatJulius Caesar was attempting to accomplish by recording a narrative of his war, on and off the battlefield, with Pompey and his forces. • 20. The English Civil War Essay 1.English Civil War: (1642–1649) The English Civil War was a conflict over parliamentary rights caused by King Charles I's avoidance to checks of his power. King Charles I ruled without summoning parliament for 11 years by acquiring funds through "loans" from wealthy subjects and applying existing taxes more broadly. When he finally summoned parliament in 1640 to raise taxes for an army he arrested those in parliament that opposed him and thus set off the English Civil War. The English Bill of Rights of 1689 was created as a result during the Glorious Revolution of 1688; this requires the king to call parliament frequently to consent changes in laws or raise an army in times of peace. In the end, the English Civil War checked the growth of royal absolutism and certified that England would be a constitutional monarchy. 2.Holy Roman Empire: The Holy Roman Empire was comprised of mostly German states and lasted from 962 to 1806. It was led by an Emperor who was elected by the princes. The Holy Roman Empire stopped the Ottoman at the gates of Vienna and several attacks after. 3.Encomienda: Encomienda was an exploitation of labor. Spanish were granted rights to Amerindians, essentially making them slaves. Amerindians were forced to provide labor and goods to keep their land and in return the Spanish gave them protection and taught them Christianity. A combination of abuse and disease led to a huge decline in Amerindians, forcing Europeans to look elsewhere for labor. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
