• First Introduce to India in 1853 From Bombay to Thane
• IR is one of the largest network in the world
• Originally, operated by privates companies Englishmen.
• In 1925-1950 GOI took over all the private railway
companies
ABOUT INDIAN RAILWAYS
• Indian railway is more than 150 years old.
•IR carried more than 25 million passengers a day.
•It is a lifeline of our country.
• No strike in last 30 years in spite of 14 lakh workers.

FACTS ABOUT INDIAN RAILWAY
• The world’s longest railway platform is in
Gorakhpur.
•IR runs 11,000 trains every day.
•If the tracks of Indian railways were to be laid out,
they would circle the earth almost 1.5 times.
•Indian Railways (IR) carries over 25 million
passengers daily which is perhaps more than the
entire population of Australia.

SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
• IR is contributing significantly to the
employment generation
• IR Increases GDP by 2%
•IR is six times energy-efficient than road
and four times more economical.
