Thomas,
Project manager
Can you give us some details about your tasks as a project manager?
Thomas: Essentially,Ilookafterprojectsintelecommunications,alarmsandalerts,andarangeofotherapplications.
Every project is different and brings with it individual requirements and run times. If it is particularly extensive, it can
even stretch over a period of up to five years. As a project manager, it is my task to provide support for the various
projectsfromtheofferphaserightthroughtocompletion.Iorganisetheentireprojectschedule,managetheindividual
project teams and take on any commercial tasks, such as planning the budget, implementing projects and drawing
up documentation. I’m also in very close contact with our customers and coordinate communication between our
project team and the specific customer. In order to discuss project progress in detail, we have weekly meetings for
large projects, either on-site with our customers or digitally, as is mostly the case at the moment.
How have you been able to develop so far and what support have you received along the way?
Thomas: IjoinedSPIEin2018aftercompletingmydualvocational-studycourseineconomicsandhavebeenworking
in project management since then. At the start, I worked on smaller projects, but was quickly able to start managing
more extensive projects. That built up my confidence, made me proud and gave me the necessary assurance that I
was performing my tasks successfully. My managers encouraged me on this journey from the very start and my
colleagues are a constant source of support, as well. This is something I am very grateful for, as the experience I am
able to gain from this is really valuable both on a personal level and for my development. I really value the great team
spirit within our team and throughout SPIE as a whole. On top of this, I have attended a few internal training sessions
from the SPIE Academy and external training courses to further develop my skills. Over the next few years, I would
like to keep gaining experience in project management and take on responsibility for other exciting projects.
In your opinion, why should anyone look to pursue a career at SPIE?
Thomas: SPIE is a growing and diverse company that is committed to the energy transition and digitalisation. Two
subjects that are impacting the world and are the responsibility of society as a whole. I like the fact that SPIE is using
its services and innovative solutions to work towards a climate-neutral future and support its customers in the digital
transformation. And, of course, I like being a part of this effort and making my own contribution to a more sustainable
and progressive world. What’s more, SPIE is extremely committed to supporting its own employees. Whether via
internal training programmes, training from the SPIE Academy or external courses, each and every employee at
SPIE has the opportunity to develop both professionally and personally. I really value the fact that young people also
have the opportunity to climb the career ladder and move into leadership positions at an early stage in their careers,
with constant support and encouragement from the company. All of which are reasons to recommend a career at
SPIE, because I am thrilled to be a part of this company.
