2. OBJECTIVES: While engaging in class
discussion, you are able to:
• identify the role of emotion in every human person;
• Enumerate effective and ineffective emotion in ones life; and
• Strengthen emotional lives and overcome emotional difficulties
3. Contents:
• Foundation stones for emotional maturity
• Developing the proper perspective on such emotions as depression,
anger, guilt, fear and anxiety. Our goal is not to repress our emotions
but to make them work for us towards righteous living. The facts that
we are Christians fuels our desire for stable emotional life. We know
that our lives will be more peaceful as a result. And the more our
emotional lives are in order, the freer we will be to love and serve
God and his people.
4. God has given us our emotions to help us, not to tear us down. They
are to be strength for our lives. Let’s take the mystery out of them so
they can operate in a way that gives peace to our lives.
6. The Emotional Chain Reaction
• Women often experience their emotions not just one at a time but in
a series or all at once. One emotion gives birth to another…with each
succeeding emotion generating yet new emotions. Recognizing this
chain reaction can help us understand why we feel and behave the
way we do.
7. Unless you understand that your emotions can
become linked, you will deal with the symptoms as
though they are the disease.
8. Four Foundation Stones
1. Jesus Christ- He is the only one who can save us from ourselves and
our sin.
2. Mind-the gate way to our emotions
3. Self-Image-how we feel about ourselves and how we think others
see us is crucial.
4. Knowledge of our Physical Nature- our bodily makeup and its effect
on our emotions, our relationship with the Lord, and the way we
think about ourselves
9. Realizing that Jesus is the cornerstone and that
our mind, our self-image and our physical self are
the foundation stones for emotional stability, we
can begin to attain the maturity we all desire.
10. Lord, I want my emotions to support my life with
you. Show me your plan for my feelings and give
me the vision and help I need to put them under
your Lordship.
