The document summarizes the various media technologies and tools the author used during their coursework project on creating a music video. These included YouTube for research on conventions and techniques from other music videos; Google to find information on the artist; Microsoft Word for risk assessments and lyrics analysis; PowerPoint for initial planning presentations; Blogger as their main blog to document all stages; their phone for quick lookups and organization; a camera, tripod, memory stick, and Adobe Premiere CC for filming, importing footage, and editing; and Photoshop to edit the digipak and advertisement. For evaluation, they used PowerPoint, Slideshare, Blogger, Prezi, and Glogster to present their reflections.
3. With the research stages of my coursework I used many
different programmes for example YouTube. I used this for
the deconstruction of previous music videos which I learnt a
lot from and used these techniques and conventions in my
final production. I analysed these music videos in depth
which are on my blog. As well as this I used YouTube for
research to find out how many props are used along with
the makeup and costume. I also looked at Rihanna’s
previous music videos for research so I could see the
theme of these music videos and incorporate this into my
production.
4. Another tool that I used was Google and this was to find information
about the artist and about their previous albums and music videos. I
also used Google to find out more about the different conventions used
in different genres and different conventions used for a digipak and
album cover. This was a tool that I used to find out some quick
information on the artist or genre, this was easily accessible on my
phone/ tablet or laptop.
As well as this I used Microsoft word to create the risk assessments for
all of the different locations I filmed at and this is a part of planning to
make sure that everything is safe for when I go to film. Alongside this I
used this application for analysing the lyrics of the song I chose to do
‘Same Ol’ Mistakes’ I also used this application for my music video
deconstructions which I used as a part of my research, this was also an
app which was easy to access from my tablet, phone and laptop.
5. • I used PowerPoint for a part of my planning as well as research
because when I had completed my first draft of everything I had
shown my peer feedback group a PowerPoint based on all of
my decisions for costume, makeup, location, shots, actors and
props. This was a part of planning because I was deciding what
to do for each aspect however it was also research because I
was finding out information about what my target audience think
of it.
• I used Wikipedia as well however it wasn’t a main part of my
research. I only used this every now and then to look for small
pieces of information about the artist for example the release
date of the album, previous music videos and albums.
6. • Blogger was one of the main applications that I used. This is where I
referred back to everyday and uploaded every single decision I
made. All my coursework can be seen on blogger and I used it for
research, planning, construction, evaluation, and editing. Blogger is
very useful as it is easy to use and can upload pictures on this to
explain all of my choices. There is also very easy access for this
application on my tablet or laptop.
• My phone was also available to use for any quick research such as a
lyric and I also used this when I was filming because when we were
filming we had the song playing in the background and in the editing
stage I managed to cut this out. My phone was also very useful to
organise and decide when to meet up with my actors for filming. I
also used my phone to upload pictures from my phone to my laptop
which I then used for my blog.
7. For the construction stage I feel that I still used many different media
technologies for example I used Photoshop and Adobe premiere CC.
While I was filming I used a cannon camera along with a tripod which
would help make parts of my production a bit steadier. After this stage I
then uploaded the pictures and videos from the camera to the software
through a memory stick that held all of my footage I filmed. Once I had
all of the footage on the iMac I had to transfer it to Adobe Premiere CC
which was an application that I have never used before so it was a
learning experience. I had to pick out particular footage that I wanted to
use for the final production which I used Adobe Premiere CC to edit,
this is a timeline based editing software. With this software you pick out
the footage that you want to use and base it on a timeline which you
can then add effects and transitions to once its all on the timeline. I
have never used this application before but it was fairly easy. As well as
this software I used Photoshop to edit the digipak and the magazine
advertisement, this is another application I was using for the first time.
8. For the evaluation I used many different applications for
example, PowerPoint, Slideshare, Blogger, Prezi and
Glogster. These are all of the different ways that I used to
present my evaluation questions. All of these I had used
before apart from glogster and all of these are really easy
to use and very easy to access.
