Merry Thursday!
I hope you enjoyed the puzzles yesterday and are ready for some
more today.
In maths, you will be focusing on algebra today and will have to solve
some problems based on this. In English, you will have a poem to read
and answers questions on. The final day of our art theme ‘all about
you’ will combine your self-portrait and your favourite things.
Have a super day!
Word Ladders
Day 4 of the word challenge and I hope you have
managed to solve some!
I have another two more puzzles for you to have a try
at! Enjoy!
Example: Cat -> Dog
Cat -> Cot -> Dot -> Dog
There will be some clues to help if you need them!

Today you will read the poem ‘Tyger Tyger’ by William Blake.
This is a brilliant poem and is very famous.
Think about what is happening in the poem as you will need
to answer some questions about it after.
Tyger, Tyger burning bright,
In the forest of the night;
What immortal hand or eye,
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?
In what distant deeps or skies.
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand, dare seize the fire?
And what should, & what art,
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand? & what dread feet?
What the hammer? what the chain,
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? what dread grasp,
Dare its deadly terror clasp!
When the stars threw down their spears
And water’d heaven with their tears;
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the Lamb make he?
Tyger Tyger burning bright,
In the forests of the night;
What immortal hand or eye,
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?
Tyger Tyger by William Blake
1. What do you think the poem is about?
2. Explain what you think the poet meant when he described the animals
‘burning bright’.
3. When and where might his animal be found?
4. Write down five examples of alliteration from the poem.
5. Write down your favourite rhyming couplet from the poem and explain your
reason for this choice.
6. What might ‘sinews’ be? Explain your reasoning.
7. In verse 4, Blake is suggesting that such a powerful animal must have been
created by…
a sculptor a painter a blacksmith a carpenter
Tick one an explain your reasoning.
8. Who is ‘he’ in verse 5?
9. Why do you think the word ‘tyger’ is spelt with a ‘y’ instead of an ‘i’?
10. Is this a modern poem? Explain your answer.
1. The poem is about a tiger. The poet is questioning who could have created
such a beautiful but fearsome creature.
2. Pupils own answers – this could be in referecne to the colour of the animal’s
fur or its ferocity.
3. The poet writes that the animal can be located ‘in the forests of the night’.
4. Examples given may be: ‘Tyger Tyger’, ‘burning bright’, ‘frame thy fearful’,
‘distant deeps’, ‘on what wings’, ‘began to beat’, ‘what dread grasp/dare its
deadly terrors clasp’.
5. Pupil’s own answers.
6. May include such words as tendons, veins or arteries in relation to the heart.
Answers – Tyger Tyger
7. Blacksmith. An example of reasoning could be: ‘I think this because the poet
uses words such as hammer, furnace and anvil within Verse 4, which are all tools
used by a blacksmith’.
8. Pupil’s own answers. This could be a reference to God. Blake may be
questioning whether ‘he’ who created the lamb, could have also created the
‘tyger’.
9. Pupil’s own answers, which could relate to it being an old spelling of the word.
10. May suggest that the poem isn’t modern as there are words within the poem
that aren’t use today, such as: thee, thy and thine.
Answers – Tyger Tyger
Art Time!
Today we are continuing the theme of ‘all
about you’ and combining it with
yesterdays half self-portrait.
You will create a picture, like the one on
this slide, where it is a half self-portrait on
one side On the other side you will
continue your face but using things that
you love as the features.
Look at the next page for some more
inspiration.
Reading time!
Grab a book, get
yourself comfy and
read, read, read!

  • 10. English Today you will read the poem ‘Tyger Tyger’ by William Blake. This is a brilliant poem and is very famous. Think about what is happening in the poem as you will need to answer some questions about it after.
  • 11. Tyger, Tyger burning bright, In the forest of the night; What immortal hand or eye, Could frame thy fearful symmetry? In what distant deeps or skies. Burnt the fire of thine eyes? On what wings dare he aspire? What the hand, dare seize the fire? And what should, & what art, Could twist the sinews of thy heart? And when thy heart began to beat, What dread hand? & what dread feet? What the hammer? what the chain, In what furnace was thy brain? What the anvil? what dread grasp, Dare its deadly terror clasp! When the stars threw down their spears And water’d heaven with their tears; Did he smile his work to see? Did he who made the Lamb make he? Tyger Tyger burning bright, In the forests of the night; What immortal hand or eye, Dare frame thy fearful symmetry? Tyger Tyger by William Blake
  • 12. 1. What do you think the poem is about? 2. Explain what you think the poet meant when he described the animals ‘burning bright’. 3. When and where might his animal be found? 4. Write down five examples of alliteration from the poem. 5. Write down your favourite rhyming couplet from the poem and explain your reason for this choice. 6. What might ‘sinews’ be? Explain your reasoning.
  • 13. 7. In verse 4, Blake is suggesting that such a powerful animal must have been created by… a sculptor a painter a blacksmith a carpenter Tick one an explain your reasoning. 8. Who is ‘he’ in verse 5? 9. Why do you think the word ‘tyger’ is spelt with a ‘y’ instead of an ‘i’? 10. Is this a modern poem? Explain your answer.
  • 14. 1. The poem is about a tiger. The poet is questioning who could have created such a beautiful but fearsome creature. 2. Pupils own answers – this could be in referecne to the colour of the animal’s fur or its ferocity. 3. The poet writes that the animal can be located ‘in the forests of the night’. 4. Examples given may be: ‘Tyger Tyger’, ‘burning bright’, ‘frame thy fearful’, ‘distant deeps’, ‘on what wings’, ‘began to beat’, ‘what dread grasp/dare its deadly terrors clasp’. 5. Pupil’s own answers. 6. May include such words as tendons, veins or arteries in relation to the heart. Answers – Tyger Tyger
  • 15. 7. Blacksmith. An example of reasoning could be: ‘I think this because the poet uses words such as hammer, furnace and anvil within Verse 4, which are all tools used by a blacksmith’. 8. Pupil’s own answers. This could be a reference to God. Blake may be questioning whether ‘he’ who created the lamb, could have also created the ‘tyger’. 9. Pupil’s own answers, which could relate to it being an old spelling of the word. 10. May suggest that the poem isn’t modern as there are words within the poem that aren’t use today, such as: thee, thy and thine. Answers – Tyger Tyger
  • 16. Art Time! Today we are continuing the theme of ‘all about you’ and combining it with yesterdays half self-portrait.
