Shows the 8 stages of development that the Radfan went through from initial idea to launch. The whole process took two years.
The Radfan is a low power fan unit that secures by magnets to the top of any steel panel central heating radiator and redirects the flow of warm air horizontally out into the room. Testing shows that this simple radiator fan can increase the temperature in a room at sofa height by up to 2 degrees C.
2. It all starts with a sketch
No name yet, just a concept born out of a problem
Knew that heat wasn’t where people need it
Basic idea to get that warmth where is it needed

3. 1. Cardboard
Simple card version with forward facing fans
Warmed up the room - on to winner?!

4. 2. The same, but different
Same as before but made with plastic
No thought on design but useable and effective

6. 4. All in one Mondeo style
1 single curved part - like the original Ford Mondeo
Limits further product growth and lacks style

7. 5. Very nearly there
Back to separate parts and adding some style
Logo picked up on the fins - too “curvey”

8. 6. Much better
Essentially the same but refined edges and logo
White paint job added this time

9. 7. Made from plastic
First full plastic prototypes - a bit ropey but useable
Used for field trials - learned ALOT with these

10. 8. Grande Finale

Looks great, like it should be on the radiator

11. 9. Future plans
?
We’ve got big plans for the Radfan but they won’t be ready
this winter, needless to say though, central heating needs to
get smarter
