2. The Internet or Net ( Network of Networks) is the largest
computer network in the world that connects billions of computer
users.
It allows your computer to get information stored on other
computers far away. Computers connect to the Internet through
telephone and cable systems.
The word internet comes from combination between
“Interconnection” and “Network”
Network is a collection of computers and devices connected via
communication channels and transmission media allow to share
resources (hardware, software, data, information).
3. The internet first came about in February 1958 in America.
The first workable prototype of the Internet came in the late 1960s
with the creation of ARPANET, or the Advanced Research
Projects Agency Network.
Originally funded by the U.S. Department of Defense, ARPANET
used packet switching to allow multiple computers to
communicate on a single network.
History of Internet
4. History of Internet A new communications protocol was established called Transfer
Control Protocol/Internetwork Protocol (TCP/IP). This allowed
different kinds of computers on different networks to "talk" to
each other.
ARPANET and the Defense Data Network officially changed to
the TCP/IP standard on January 1, 1983, hence the birth of the
Internet. All networks could now be connected by a universal
language.
6. How does the Internet Work?
The Internet works through a packet routing network in accordance with
the Internet Protocol (IP), the Transport Control Protocol (TCP) and
other protocols.
What’s a protocol?
A protocol is a set of rules specifying how computers should
communicate with each other over a network. For example,
the Transport Control Protocol has a rule that if one computer sends data
to another computer, the destination computer should let the source
computer know if any data was missing so the source computer can re-
send it.
7. What’s a packet?
Data sent across the Internet is called a message. Before
a message is sent, it is first split in many fragments called packets.
What’s a packet routing network?
It is a network that routes packets from a source computer to a
destination computer. The Internet is made up of a massive network
of specialized computers called routers.
Each router’s job is to know how to move packets along from their
source to their destination.
8. There are many types of Internet services.
1. Dial – up : This internet uses phone line. This is very slow type of
Internet connection.
2. DSL: DSL service uses a broadband connection.
3. Cable: Cable service connects to the Internet via cable TV.
4. Satellite: A satellite connection uses broadband but does not require cable
or phone lines; it connects to the Internet through satellites orbiting the
Earth.
5. 3G and 4G: 3G and 4G service is most commonly used with mobile
phones, and it connects wirelessly through your ISP's network.
An Internet service provider (ISP) is an organization that provides services
for accessing, using, or participating in the Internet.
9. Once you have your Internet connection, then you need special
software called a browser to access the Web.
A web browser is a software application for accessing
information on the World Wide Web.
Examples of Web browser: Netscape Navigator (Navigator)
and Internet Explorer.
Google
Chrome
SafariMozilla
Firefox
Internet
explorer
Netscape NavigatorOpera Mini
10. Web page:
A document which can be displayed in a web browser such as
Firefox, Internet explorer,. These are also often called just
"pages”.
A web page can be accessed by entering a URL address into a
browser's address bar.
Website:
A collection of web pages which are grouped together and
usually connected together in various ways. Often called a "web
site" or simply a "site”.
Ex: Amazon, school website, company website.
The main page that all of the pages on a particular Web site are
organized around and link back to is called the site’s home page.
11. The first web page was created at CERN by Tim Berners-Lee on
August 6, 1991.
12. 1. Source Of Information:
It is the best source of a variety of information.
2. Source Of Entertainment:
Online games, chatting, surfing, music, movies, dramas, and TV shows
are becoming the most common sources of entertainment.
3. Online Shopping:
Internet shopping is becoming popular because of virtual shops where
we can buy anything we want and need without going out of the home.
4. Money transactions:
We can send money, pay bills electronically, or many other services
can complete through the Internet.
13. Disadvantages of Internet
1. Addiction, time-waster, and causes distractions:
If any person is spending much time on the Internet connected devices, he
can be addicted to the Internet.
2. Spam and advertising:
The Internet is the best place to advertise any service or product as
compared to traditional advertising methods (for example, TV, newspaper, and
radio).
3. Viruses/Malwares:
The frequently use of the Internet may infect your system from viruses that
can damage your valuable data, which is difficult to recover.
4. Theft, hacking, and cheating:
There are various malicious users and computer hackers that can steal your
personal information and hack accounts, which can be used for identity theft
and can be harmful to you personally.
14. •Internet is one of the best things ever invented in humanity.
•It is an absolute great tool to learn and communicate in just a
click of a mouse.
•Internet can expose these young minds to harmful uncensored
videos or images that can cause various psychological
influences.
•Over usage of computer can also lead to different kinds of
physical and cognitive health problems.
•Internet can be really helpful and entertaining, but for those
who do.
