Sierra Dayen interviewed her mother about her family history. Her mother's side originally immigrated from England, with her great-grandmother being born there. Her great-grandmother came to the United States for greater religious freedom and first settled in New York, but disliked its urban environment and moved to more rural Rhode Island. Her great-grandmother was extremely Catholic and wealthy, with her husband working as a professional sports player. Some family traditions from England were passed down, such as religious traditions, though Sierra's mother later became a Christian after meeting her father.
