3. Introduction
In part 3 of my family history project, I will
demonstrate vocabulary words that I’ve learned
through the course of this class to illustrate my
families journeys.
4. When Did My Family Get Here
(Father’s Side)
• My paternal grandparents emigrated from
Mexico to the U.S. in 1965.
• They arrived in the U.S. during the 4th wave of
Immagration
• When my grandparents arrived the civil rights
movement was underway
5. Where Did My Family Originate &
Settle
(Father’s Side)
• My family originated from a small town called
Autclan, Mexico right outside of Guadalajara
• They entered the U.S. through the port of
entry of the San Diego/Tijuana
• They settled in an ethnic neighborhood in Los
Angeles, California
6. Where Did My Family Originate &

• My father and his family had an urban to
suburban migration from the city of Los
Angeles to La Puente.
• My father climbed the immigrant ladder once
again by moving from La Puente to Montclair
when he married my mother
• They once again moved from Montclair to
Chino
7. Why Did My Family Come Here
(Father’s Side)
• The push factors that caused my father’s
family moved to America was the job
opportunities in the secondary sector of the
economy. The higher salaries would offer a
chance for a better lifestyle.
• Another push factor was the free education
that my grandparents wanted to provide my
father and their children with.
8. Why Did My Family Come Here
(Father’s Side)
• The climate of California is fairly mild which
was one of the reasons why my father’s family
wanted to settle in sunny California.
9. When Did My Family Come to U.S.
(Mother’s Side)
• My grandmother was born and raised in El
Paso, Texas.
• My grandfather was born in Mexico and
eventually immigrated to Los Angeles during
the 4th wave of immigration.
10. Where Did My Family Originate &
Settle
(Mother’s Side)
• My grandmother was originally from El Paso
Texas, and immigrated Los Angeles, California
where she met and married my grandfather
who immigrated to LA from Mexico.
• They immigrated to La Puente, California from
Los Angeles.
11. Why Did My Family Come Here
(Mother’s Side)
• My grandmother’s family came here for a
better life.
• The numerous amounts of job opportunities
within the secondary sector played a big role
in the improvement of their lives.
• California had one of the best education
systems in the country.
12. Why Did My Family Come Here
(Mother’s Side)
• Emigrated away from Los Angeles to find
better jobs and education.
• They also immigrated inland seeking better
communities to raise a family.
13. Religion
• My father’s side of the family was raised as
strict Christian Catholics throughout their
whole lives.
• My mother’s side of the family was raised as a
Christian Catholic, but eventually converted
over to Christianity.
• When my parents met my mother converted
back over to Christian Catholic.
14. Mexican Culture
• My father’s family was born into traditional
Mexican culture.
• My mother’s family lived a very American
lifestyle while holding onto some Mexican
traditions
• My parents families’ immigrated into an
ethnic neighborhood and was culturally
assimilated while living in Los Angeles.
15. Mexican Culture
• When my met in La Puente, California they
went through a transformation of their
culture, and became more Americanized while
they lived in the exurbia of Los Angeles.
