• Kony was an altar boy for several
years but stopped attending church
around the age of 15.
• As a teenager, Kony was
apprenticed as the village witch
doctor under Jamie Brow his older
brother, and when Jamie
died, Kony took over the position
3. • Joseph Kony considers himself quite a good
Christian, and he wants Uganda to be a
Christian nation. So in 1987 he formed a
resistance group called the Lord's Resistance
Army (LRA), and the LRA has been at civil
war against the Ugandan government ever
since. If the LRA wins, Kony has promised
that Uganda will become a theocracy, with
laws based on the Biblical Ten
Commandments

• He is a leader of a rebel group called
the LRA in Central Africa
• He uses his army of rebels to abduct
a children from the village. The
children mostly the boys are forced
to kill their lived ones or friends, the
girls are used as sex slaves for the
rest of the rebel army.

student, but he had a sense of humor, he was
pleasant, polite, loved soccer (football) and he
was one of the best Larakaraka dancers
(traditional Acholi Dance) and he loved when
others cheered him on.

ICC?
• Joseph Kony was indicted on 8 July
2005 on 12 counts of crimes against
humanity and 21 counts of war crimes
with regard to the situation in Uganda.
8. According to the arrest warrant issued for him, since 1
July 2002 "the LRA has engaged in a cycle of violence
and established a pattern of 'brutalization of civilians'
by acts including murder, abduction, sexual
enslavement, mutilation, as well as mass burnings of
houses and looting of camp settlements" and
furthermore "that abducted civilians, including
children, are said to have been forcibly 'recruited' as
fighters, porters and sex slaves to serve the LRA and to
contribute to attacks against the Ugandan army and
civilian communities"
