Before the Lupani Primary School was built
in 2011, students in the Sekute community
often had to walk miles a day to attend
classes held in a ramshackle building that
could only house 50 students. Students
now have easier access, but there are still
many opportunities to better serve the
125 students now enrolled and to further
community engagement.
Given the schools’ proximity to Livingstone
and Victoria Falls, strong community
support, and successful conservation
program, it is proposed that Lupani become
the pilot project for testing the integration
of technology into a curriculum of
conservation through the use of e-readers
and internet as well as sustainable waste
management and agricultural systems.
KEY FEATURES
• Agricultural zone assists the teaching
of agro-forestry conservation
practices and food production for the
school
• A biogas system generates fuel for
the school kitchen, reducing or
eliminating the use of wood charcoal
• New building will define campus and
accommodate additional community
and administrative needs
• Landscape connectors planted
with local flora display educational
information about the ecological
system, shade existing buildings, and
form inspiring outdoor classrooms
and play spaces
