Kelmscott School <ul><li>Location: Walthamstow – London Borough of Waltham Forest (North East London) </li></ul><ul><li>Type: Community co-educational 11-16 school with 900 pupils – very multicultural </li></ul><ul><li>based in one of the most deprived areas of the UK. </li></ul><ul><li>Achievements: Specialist Humanities and Business Enterprise School. A* - C has </li></ul><ul><li>risen to 71% and A* -C including Mathematics and </li></ul><ul><li>English has increased from 21% to 44% over the last five years. </li></ul><ul><li>Building: Original building from the 1970’s – based on a ground floor Quadrant </li></ul><ul><li>design. Additional Annexe build in the 1990’s. One of the first BSF remodelled </li></ul><ul><li>buildings completed September 2008 </li></ul>

  6. 6. The Major Foyer <ul><li>Area close to the main foyer is light and airy. </li></ul><ul><li>All facilities such as the main hall, dining and toilets are in close proximity to the main entrance allowing for community use without access to the whole school. </li></ul>
  7. 7. Ensuring Access For All <ul><li>Main ramp to the dining area. All facilities are DDA compliant ensuring access by all members of the community. </li></ul>
  8. 8. Dining Area <ul><li>‘ Wagamama’ style dining facilities are very popular with pupils and staff. </li></ul>
  9. 9. Break-Out Spaces <ul><li>The design has allowed for a number of break-out spaces which can be flexible in their use. This area in front of the library provides a games area at break and lunch. </li></ul>
  10. 10. Wall Space for Display <ul><li>Large wall spaces have been used to good effect. This area outside of the library has a reading tree designed to focus on different aspects of literacy. </li></ul>

  12. 12. Outside Space <ul><li>The Canopy encircles the whole building. This allows pupils to remain outside even in wet weather if they wish. Outside entrances to classrooms diminish problems with corridor behaviour. </li></ul>
  13. 13. Technology Suite <ul><li>Re-Designed work spaces in technology allow pupils to move easily between workshop spaces and ICT facilities staff have a view of both at any one time </li></ul>
  14. 14. Citizenship Space <ul><li>The old drama studio has been re-designed into a large citizenship room. Community groups visiting the school have a large classroom based space to deliver lessons, talks and discussion based learning. </li></ul>
  15. 15. Main Classroom <ul><li>Main classrooms have all been set out in a similar way to ensure access to interactive white boards as well as the traditional boards. </li></ul>
  16. 16. Refurbished Annexe Building <ul><li>The Maths area in the Annexe building has been refurbished. A local adult learning centre (247 Markhouse) visits regularly to receive lessons from the school’s AST. </li></ul>
  17. 17. The Music Suite <ul><li>The school has a suite of high quality music facilities which enable a range of projects to be carried out. </li></ul>
  18. 18. Main Hall <ul><li>The main hall has state of the art equipment and flexible seating. The hall has already been used for a number of different community performances and conferences . </li></ul>
  19. 19. Amphitheatre & Front Field <ul><li>Views of the front field including the amphitheatre. </li></ul><ul><li>Community groups have used the facilities during the summer months </li></ul>
