2. Concept of Mala
• “Malinikarananam malah” is the definition of Mala which is the one
of the basic component of Sharira.
• These are three major and various minor mala stated in Brihatrayi.
• Purish- Mutra- Sweda are the major and Khamala, twak swed, nakh,
roma are minor mala of the Sharira.
• These mala are considered to be excereted from the body at regular
intervals.
• If retained in the body for longer time it produces many pathological
consequences.
3. Mala Pradoshaj Vikar
• In general the diseases which are associated with vitiation in mala itself are
called mala pradoshaj vikar.
• Mala not only contain the waste products and helps in keeping the body
clean but maintain the strength of the body also.
• For example purish does the Upasthambhan ( providing stability to the
sharir), Vayu-Agni Dharan ( maintenance of stste of Vaat and Agni of the
Sharir).
• Mutra does Basti puran ( filling of bladder) and Vikledan ( removal of
Kleda).
• Sweda maintains the moisture and hydration of the Sharir.
• These functions are also altered in mala pradoshaj vikar.
4. Mala Pradoshaj Vikar

Acharya Charak and Sushrut stated that obstruction, decrease,
increase, excess excretion, improper excretion, altered consisitency and
skin pathologies are the common Mala Pradoshaj Vikar.
5. Mala Pradoshaj Vikar
• 1. Mala bhed- Increased frequency of defecation/ dry stool/ hard
stool/ delayed defecation are meant for it. Same for other malas.
• 2. Mala shosh- Because of Vata prakop the decreased hydrating
content of mala.
• 3. Mala sang- obstruction in excretion of mala.
• 4. Mala ayatha pravriti- Improper form of mala in consistency, odour,
containing other components like mucus, blood, flatulence.
• 5. Mala atipravriti- excess ecretion of mala.
• 6. Twak vikar- Various skin disorders happen because of Mala
Pradoshaj Vikar.
