*characteristics of
matter*different kinds of
matter*harmful and useful
kinds of matter*
By: Shieniah Anne A. Jethani
Solid is the most common matter that we
can see around us. It has
volume,shape,color, measurement,weight
and texture.Sometimes
it can be soft or hard, smooth or
rough,and cirle or square.
Examples:tables,chairs,shelf,
vase,telephone,etc.
Liquid doesn’t have a permanent shape but
it can take the shape of its container.Liquid
can be more harmful than solid but liquid
can be useful too.We shouldn’t taste it
without asking for a permission because it
can be poisoning
Examples:Fruit juice,vinegar,soy sauce,milk,
ketchup,syrup etc.
Gas is the trickiest one because its
something we cant see but we can feel it.it
doesn’t have difined shape but it can also
take the space of its container. It can be
made of different atoms like oxygen and
more.
Examples:Fresh air,hellium inside the ballon
fart,etc.
Plasma is hot ionized gas that is very similar
to gas.It doesn’t exist freely on the earth
surface.A heated gas is an example of
plasma. We cant see it too but same as the
gas,we can feel it.It can also takes the shape
of its container.
Examples:smoke of boiled water,steam of
water,etc.
Answer the following quetsions and give
examples of each matter.
1.What is matter and its types?
2.Descibe what solid is and give 5
examples
3.Give the characteristics of liquid give
5 examples.
4.Give the meaning of gas.Give 3
examples
5.What is the difference of plasma and
gas?
Observe around you and list down the
different types of mattter we can see
around.Write that down in a whole sheet of
paper.
REMEMBER:
Matter doesn’t have the same
characteristics,some can be
smooth,hard,hot,heavy.
Sometimes,things can be harmful or
useful so we should be more careful.
Flammable things is where
fire starts sometimes. Match
is the best example for
Flammable things. We should
be careful for Flammable
things. Ask permission before
using
Toxic materials are directly
harmful in our life in any form.
Practically every substance is
toxic. The only different is the
quantity or dose that produce
the toxic effect.
Having properties or effects
of poison that can cause
injury or death when absorb.
We should be more careful
when absorbing poisonous
materials
*Wear gloves or mask when using those
materials.
*Put label on that kind of materials so we
know what are we using.
*Put it in the right place.
*Put flammable materials near the cooking
area
*Put it away from little children so that they
cant play it
Put check in the blank if the sentence is correct
and cross If not.
__1. Wearing gloves and mask when using toxic
materials is not good.
__2. Putting poisonous materials away from
children is a good idea
__3. Drinking Poisonous materials is good for
health
__4.Putting lable on bleach is good.
__5.Putting the toxic poisonous and flammable
materials in right place is good idea
Matters can change their form by being
heated, and freeze
Matters can change in any form It can be put in
the freezer to be freeze it can be boiled to be
hot, it can be melt, and many more changes we
want to see.
It can be liquid to solid, solid to liquid, and
liquid to gas. Just like the melted ice-cream,
It can be solid at first and become liquid when
its melted. Another example is water to ice. We
can freeze it to become solid.
CANDLES EXPLANATION
Solid to solid is an
example of changes
too. When Candles is
used, it may melt and
become solid when it
hardens, It is solid
before and after
melting, But it can
change its shape.
Ice Cubes Explanation
Another example is
when freezing some-
thing. It may be liquid
at first and solid after,
The best example for
liquid to solid change
is water becoming an
ice.
Boiling Water Explanation
It cant be just
changing
In its form, Its Tempe-
rature can change too
The cold temperature
can be so hot when
heated or when
boiled.The hot tempe
rature can be cold too.
Write yes if the sentence is correct and no if
its not.
1.Matter can change its form in any ways.
2.Boiling a water will make it super cold.
3.It may be liquid before and solid after.
4.Melted ice cream is an example of changes
in matter.
5.Eating candles can make it change in its
current form.
Every part of the peoples 5
senses has a job.
Cornea-its like a clear mirror which covers the first
layer of an eye.
Iris-is the part that has color. This is the one who
brings light into our eyes.
Pupil-is in the middle of the iris. Its circle and this is
where the light enters our eye.
Lens-This is in the middle part of an eye which
gives pictures or things that can see in retina.
Retina-is like a curtain that covers the eye to
focus on something we see
Optic nerve-connect the eye to the brain. They
give message to the thing we see.
Answer the following questions.
1.Is an eye helpful to a person? Why?
2.Which part of the eye is like a clear mirror that
covers the first layer?
3.Which part connects the eye to the brain and
gives message to something we see?
4.Which part of the eye is like a curtain which
covers the eye to focus on something?
5.Is it right to take care of our eye?why?
Ears helps us too listen to something. There
are different parts of the ear. The outer part of
the ear is called pinna. This is the part that we
can see and this is where we put our earing.
This part recieves sounds bringing to the ear
canal. Ear canal is a tube where ear wax is
formed. The ear canal sends the message to
the ear drum. Ear drum is a thin skin which is
so streched just like a drum. When a sound
reached the ear drum, it will vibrate.
There are three seeds connected to each
other at the back of the eardrum. Those are
hammer, anvil, and stirrup. When the eardrum
vibrates, the little seeds will vibrate as well.
The cochlea can feel the vibration. The
cochlea shapes like a snails shell that has
liquid inside. When the liquid inside vibrates, it
sends message to the brain by the auditory
nerve which gives knowledge to the sound we
hear.
Answer the following questions.
1.What are the three little seeds connected to
each other at the back of the eardrum?
2.What is pinna?
3. What is ear canal?
4.What is the auditory nerve?
5.What is cochlea?
Our nose helps us to smell everything
around us. We use it to breath. This
is made by nostrils, nasal cavity, and
nerves. Nostrils is the little hole we
can see. Inside the nostrils has a
hair which helps to segragate the
dirt. When we smell air it goes to the
nostrils going to the nasal passages
going to nasal cavity. Nasal cavity is
the part at the back of the nose at
the middle of our face. The walls of
this part is wet, hot, and covered
with mucus. Mucus is sticky liquid.
This part segregates the dirt and
germs that is not being segregates
by the hair inside the nostrils. Inside
the nasal cavity is the nerves that
gets the smell that the air brings.
The roots sends the message in the
nasal cavity and gives knowledge to
what we see.
1. What are the part of the nose?
2. What is the nose made of?
3. What are nostrils and what are inside of it?
4. Where is the air going after passing throught
the nostrils?
5.Whats inside the nasal cavity?
REMEMBER:
Our nose help us to breath, every part of the
nose inside has a job .
Our tongue is a part of the five senses which helps
us to taste. Here are the taste buds. The taste of the
food goes to the taste buds and at the end of the
roots. The roots sends the message to the brain and
gives knowledge to the taste of the food we eat.
REMEMBER:
Our tongue helps us to taste everything.
Same as the other senses. Every part has a job.
 Our skin is the outer part of the 5 senses which
covers the whole body. This is the safeguard for
the exhaustion of water, damage, and germs. It
helps to maintain the temperature in our body and
the sensory around. Its made of the two parts. The
epidermis is the first part this is the outer part of
the skin where we see the dead skin cells. We can
see and feel this part. The dermis is in the lower
part that covers blood vessels, nerves, sweat and
oil glands.
